Just found this on YouTube, the original version of John Lennon's 'Whatever Gets You Thru The Night' video. This is not the version found in the official Lennon Video collection. Yoko re-edited the footage for 'Mind Games' on the official video collection. I remember seeing this video at Beatlefest in the late 70's. Really nice to see it again in it's original form.

Thanks for posting that, Fred! I lways wanted to hear John's vocals without Elton's harmony, and now I have! (Nothing against Elton, but...)

Wow, that looks like Madison Square Garden. If you're referring to the bandshell John Lennon is fooling around on in the video, that's the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park, very close to where the Dakota is and Strawberry Fields. After John was murdered, he was eulogized at the bandshell. There was a photo of John with his New York City t-shirt displayed on the bandshell. There were thousands of people there. I went with a friend of mine and at the moment Yoko requested the fourteen minutes of silence in John's memory, everyone held hands and it was so quiet all you could hear were the helicopters flying overhead. After the fourteen minutes were up 'Imagine' was played over the sound system. It was a very moving moment which I'll never forget. John Lennon Memorial at Central Park Bandshell 12/14/1980

Are you saying the original video's audio didn't have Elton's vocal but just John's?
I certainly prefer this audio version as Elton John apparetly felt that he had to drowned out John's vocal on the record with his banshee singing.
I never really cared for WGYTTN because of Elton's singing but I really like this John-only version.

Why would Yoko leave out the lip syncing? I always thought there was an "official" video with lip syncing, but had my doubts to my memory when the video collection first came out on VHS

A great video, although circa 1974 fashion-wise it's sadly at the height of Lennon's "pimp" phase.

Why would Yoko leave out the lip syncing? I always thought there was an "official" video with lip syncing, but had my doubts to my memory when the video collection first came out on VHS I did a little research on YouTube on the video. Someone else had originally posted the video, adding a version of the song that had the Elton John vocals eliminated. Others copied his video and reposted it taking credit for it. Yoko had nothing to do with this version of the video. I saw this video at Beatles fest in the mid to late 70's and I remembered hearing the released version of the song on the soundtrack of the film. Here's the link to the video by the original poster of it. Read the comments on how the video was put together.
