It's a fact of life. Everybody loves the film 'Mamma Mia'. Your postman does. The girl behind the counter in Bargain Booze does. Even the UK's best-known film critic, the 'Good Doctor', Mark Kermode reckons that it's "so bad that it's good" and has gone back to see it three times. Well, all I can say is that I saw it last night and was bored rigid. Admittedly, the Abba songs were superb - moreso than 'Abba's Greatest Hits' this film really brought home to me how many fantastic songs Abba produced. But the film itself was bliddy awful. Lame story, Julie Walters really terrible - totally mis-cast. I found myself wearing this sort of watery, limp smile throughout and making a frantic attempt to rub along with the cheesy merriment and foot-tapping jollity, but d'you know what? - I really hated it. Everybody down our street likes it. Even my dentist said to me last week - 'You've got to go and see 'Mamma Mia'?'. I must be dead inside. Does anone else want to fess up to not liking 'Mamma Mia'? It would make me feel a whole lot better.

It's a fact of life. Everybody loves the film 'Mama Mia' . . . I'm a huge ABBA fan. I have seen both the stage and film version of Mamma Mia. The best I can say is that I did not wish I could get those hours of my life back. It was a great travel brochure for Greece. Loved that shot of the candle lit steps going up to the church! I think you're right about the movie being miscast. I think the only thing worse than hearing Pierce Brosnan sing would be seeing Whoopie Goldberg nude. ;D The music was good, of course, but why would one buy the soundtrack when they could just buy the originals? It's like Beatlemania. Phony as a 3 dollar bill. Yes, it's okay not to like them as stage and movie productions. I prefer and highly recommend Muriel's Wedding, a movie that uses ABBA songs.

Mrs. Damm says that it is definitely OK not to like Mama Mia! She questioned my manhood as I raptly watched this movie and sang along giddily like a schoolchild. She wanted to throughout the whole movie. By the way, superhans, tell me more about the, "girl behind the counter in Bargain Booze." Does she know her ale and lager?

I wonder if a teenage John Lennon and Pete Shotton shoplifted from there or asked adult ancestors of superhans to buy them booze!

She wanted to throughout the whole movie. Exact opposite in my house. Wife loves the movie. I hated both the stage show and the movie. And I love ABBA. In fact, in Target, they had an ad for the ABBA karaoke game on Playstation 2 that I almost bought. I might still...

The location of the movie was pretty(sayne says it is some part of Greece) and the music itself was great even if Pierce Brosnan's singing made me bust a gut laughing. My wife has no sense of humor, no sense of joy and besides this movie she also doesn't like ABBA! It really opened my eyes to ABBA. I will check out Muriel's Wedding as recommended by sayne.

. . . I will check out Muriel's Wedding . . . Give us your review, good or bad, when you get around to seeing it. Inquiring minds will want to know. Hey, here's an idea for a great afternoon with you and your wife, as you snuggle together on a cold, wet Saturday. Watch Mureil's Wedding and Ballroom Dancing. Both Aussie films, "chick flicks", but good, and good for bonding with the little woman.

The location is the Greek island of Skopellos. The beach is Kastani beach and the little church on the clifftop is Ag.Ioannis (St. John).
How do I know ? I was there two months ago, the beach is beautiful, stunning. A tourist boat pulled up playing Abba music.
