Does anyone know if the white grand piano John is playing on "I Am The Walrus" is his "Imagine" piano?

Wow...there's a damn good esoteric question.

I've wondered that myself. But it's only possible if the legs were chaged. The Walrus piano has different legs than the Imagine piano.
I'll bet that the Walrus one is a lighter cheaper one that was better to drag out to the film site.

I love 'I Am The Walrus' if for no other reason than the song is so very weird.
John Lennon at the top of his game.

Doesn't George Michaels own the Imagine Piano? I thought I read a few years back that he bought it from auction for a large sum. Don't know where the MMT piano is but imagine what it would bring on the auction block!!

Yeah, all this stuff, Beatles memorabilia, is ungodly expensive these days.
I did get the chance to see John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls-Royce as Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen bought it through our hometown a year or two ago for an auto show. Nothing but cool!

Not the same piano
Lennon bought the piano in December 1970, had it delivered to studios at his home in Tittenhurst Park in Berkshire, composed and recorded "Imagine" on it. The piano is a simple upright style instrument, not the white piano which graced the cover of the album. In 1992, it was bought by a private British collector who put it up for auction in October 2000.

I'm somewhat confused. I've always considered the piano Lennon's playing in the above pictures a 'Baby Grand' piano. An upright piano is an entirely different looking animal, like the kind we had in our house when I was a child. Can anyone explain the difference?

Yes, If you ever saw the "Gimme Some Truth" DVD , when John plays the song for Nicky Hopkins and Klaus Vormann he is playing the upright piano that George Michael purchased, The one on the cover IS a baby grand that was in his house, Not the upright that was in his studio

Thanks for the feedback. It appears likely that the MMT white baby grand piano and the white baby grand used in the Imagine video are two different ones (based on the front legs being different). John's "upright" piano is right here in Dallas (where I live) on display at a local mall. I plan to check it out this week. I've seen photos of it. It's just sitting there in a glass case by some shops.

My sister said she played John's white baby grand a few years ago while she was teaching in the NJ/NY area. I'm going to have to ask her if she knows where it is today. JCV

JCV Sorry, she doesn't know where it is or who bought it. Oh well. But we both feel the same way - the piano should be played, not DISplayed. JCV
