Just finished Victor Spinetti's book 'Up Front'. It's a quite delightful look at Spinetti's incredibly fascinating life and career. Though basically known for his appearances in the Beatles' films 'A Hard Day's Night', 'Help!' and 'Magical Mystery Tour' (as well as the music videos for Paul McCartney's 'London Town' and Mike & The Mechanics 'All I Need Is A Miracle' with Spinetti's 'Help!' co-star, the late Roy Kinnear), Spinetti has also had an interesting life as a reknown character actor who has rub shoulders with the likes of Peter Sellers, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Marlene Dietrich, Sean Connery, Lawrence Olivier, among many famous names. His delightful stories brings these colorful personalities to life. Victor has even left in, as Monty Python would call them, the 'naughty bits'.
Victor's great Beatles' stories, which he has related in his excellent one man show 'A Very Private Diary' and at Beatles' conventions, are all here, plus more. Spinetti tells his tales in a very straight forward manner that is funny, charming and touching. Victor's life beyond the Beatles' is just as fascinating and readers will come away from the book amazed at what an incredibly rich career he's had. For those who love acting and theater, this is also a wonderfully informative theatrical book in which to pick up a few pointers.
If you have an interest in theater and theater stories (and of course, The Beatles), then pick up and enjoy Victor Spinetti's 'Up Front' and spend a little quality reading time with a very fascinating and charming gentleman.
