Watching the Pats-Colts game (Go Indy!) and just saw a Grammys promo on CBS. At the end of the montage of featured artists on the show were Paul McCartney AND Ringo Starr!!!! When was the last time Ringo was prominently featured as a guest on any major network music awards show ? Should be interesting! Steve announced this two years ago: www.examiner.com/article/beatle-ringo-starr-to-join-paul-mccartney-at-grammy-awardsRingo was going to be on the show but was very ill. He was possibly going to play his usual "co" drums on the Golden Slumbers medley (with Bruce and bro-in-law Joe Walsh as well), but that was it-would have been awesome, but I would have to wonder if he would have done his solo. I joked he could do a Bye Bye Blackbird duet with Paul (promoting his Kiss My Ass LP at the time).

Is getting Paul and Ringo together really a Beatles reunion. It just doesn't feel like a fraction of a reunion without John or George, less so without both of them. I hope they don't try to recreate the magic of that first Sullivan show, it will be a most pale imitation. Don't underestimate the power of the Beatles rhythm section live on stage. If they do it-Joe Walsh will be there guaranteed. I'll be in heaven- Joe W. rules. I don't think the kids will be there but Sean and Dhani have the presence to stand on stage in their father's place if only for a moment. Julian does too, but wouldn't do it.

Decided to buy tickets for Sat. 2/8/14 for the Fest as well. So now I have tickets for both Sat. and Sun. Never gone two days at the same Fest before, but this one is special. I want to see Cousin Brucie on Sat. nite when he does his satellite radio show on Sirius XM live from the Fest from 6-9PM. That should be fun. And it increases chances I might be there if Paul & Ringo decide to show up unannounced either on Sat. or Sun. Just my luck they will do The Letterman Show on Friday night (taped 5-6PM) over at The Ed Sullivan Theatre and then decide to show up unannounced at the Fest on Friday night after the taping! And I'll miss it! I hear Pattie Boyd is now coming to the Fest again this year. Cousin Brucie mentioned it last night on his radio program. That means Ronnie Wood might be there too..
The guest list continues to grow for the Fest as the dates draw closer.

I know the one I went to was in March, but for all I know, he may have moved it to February years ago. Good thing it is the week after the Super Bowl! I am pretty sure I had a three day ticket way back in '96; I know we (Marty Babicz, his then-girlfriend-now-wife Ann and me) left Allan Kozinn's apartment on Friday afternoon and drove over, taking a route that caused us to be much later than we had anticipated. It was long before GPS navigation. I'm thinking we went over to the 'Fest (we weren't staying in that hotel) on Friday night, and then just about all day Saturday. We met up with some of our on-line buddies Sunday morning for brunch, and then went back. This was before the Abbeyrd boards started; we were on GEnie together at that point, having left Prodigy when the price structure on that service changed dramatically. We closed it down Sunday and then I caught a plane home on Monday morning. Expensive trip--especially when I found the bootleg rooms!--but I would rather have the memory of meeting in person those I already considered to be friends than the money. JcS

Well Joey, in the words of The Beach Boys, "Let's Do It Again!" Although it would be a first for me to go to a NYC Beatlefest(I refuse to call it that stupid name Apple forced upon Lapidos) and meeting you face to face.
OldFred, JoeK and MikeV have promised to play hosts as the Three Musketeers and it would be fun. Pattie Boyd will be there and any protective order(s) she held against me are long expired!

JcS It is usually in March, but due to the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles in America he moved it to Feb. and it is also the 40th Anniversary of Beatlfest, so Mark brought it back to the original location in NYC where it started in 1974 (The Grand Hyatt in those days was the Commodore Hotel).

I don't know. If several from here made the trip across country or Trans-Atlantic, how could I be a party pooper and not go.
I think I have heard of Virgils, Mike, but I am not sure how? Is it a veggie joint?

Although it would be a first for me to go to a NYC Beatlefest(I refuse to call it that stupid name Apple forced upon Lapidos) and meeting you face to face. As you can appreciate, I need about a three month advance notice to be able to take off several days from the office. Going this year would also not appeal to me as much as other years--I suspect it will be swarming, and being jam packed into rooms and in the halls just doesn't interest me. While I'd love to go back up to see Allan Kozinn and his new wife, I'd probably be more likely to go to one in Chicago; I've never been to that town, and would combine the 'fest with other stuff. All this would be more likely to happen in a few years after Conor is out of high school. JcS

My February isn't bad (yet) although I see March will be a bear. But yeah, you are right and I shouldn't up and go like that. NYC Fest may be sold out anyway as Chicago often sells out and this NYC is the biggie.
Let me know if you ever do Chicago, Beatlefest or otherwise. I know that city well and can navigate it easily enough and have had fun hitting the highlights with my guests.
Beatlefests are usually in the Northwestern suburb of Rosemont at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare(and it was there in 2013) so easy parking, easy entrance and exit to the highways that go around Chicago.

[quote I was beginning to think that my new Ringo avatar had thrown people for a loop. [/quote] Funny you say that because it took me a long time to realize that was you! And I like the idea of Pepper/With A Little Help From My Friends followed by I Wanna Be Your Man/I Want To Hold Your Hand!

This talk about them performing together is in all probability hype.

I agree with Mike -- it makes NO SENSE at this point for Paul and Ringo to perform as solo acts here. I realize that decades ago it was always a sensitive issue for any of The Beatles to play together, because once they did, the public always thought: "The Beatles Are Getting Together! The Beatles Are Getting Together!". However, there is now so much water under the bridge, and both John and George have been gone for so long... Paul and Ringo cannot possibly think that playing as a duo will incite all sorts of "Beatles Back Together" rumors.
Here is what I am betting -- that Paul and Ringo WILL share the stage together at the Grammys -- however, it will not be formally announced, as to keep it exciting and a surprise.

They'll at least play together in the all-star(r) jam at the end. Personally I'd like to see a four song early/late set as we have all been suggesting, with some of Paul and Ringo's regulars and of course Joe Walsh, maybe even Clapton or Jeff Lynne. I don't see the kids(Sean, Dhani) thing happening, but I'd love it. Imagine just the four of them-they could pull it off. Sean and Dhani are both excellent musicians. The coolest thing that could possibly happen and of course won't is Paul and Ringo joined by the surviving Wilburies

IF IF IF Paul and Ringo were to play together as a 4some with progeny, we can say that Dhani would be the lead guitarist. Who would you pick for the 4th/rhythm guitarist? Sean or Julian. For this question, forget who you "like". Which would make it a better band? I think Sean is a better musician than Julian, but Julian is probably a better singer. Since I lean towards rock, rather than pop, I think I'd go for Sean. (No cheating by saying Julian could play keys or background vocals). This is a 4 piece question.

I do like Julian's voice better too but I wouldn't want Sean and Dhani singing so much as just being on stage playing the two guitar spots. There would be Lennon and Harrison DNA on stage and that beats Jeff Lynne and Joe Walsh by a million miles. Since they would probably play the earlier stuff we don't need the guitar heroics of Lynne or Walsh(or Clapton). Sean and Dhani would handle the guitars beautifully.

I would be happy right now to have Paul on bass singing lead, with Ringo on drums -- and Dhani and Sean on guitars. I will also say I like the suggestions of Joe Walsh, if we can't have the sons.

Dhani's living in the LA area now so it may not be so far-fetched to think he would make an appearance.
