This is fun but I am afraid that it won't happen for several reasons. Julian would insist that Cynthia be close by if he is asked since, after all, she accompanied The Beatles on that first U.S. visit. Sean would likewise insist that Yoko get onstage and sing because, after all, she was part of The Beatles 1968/1969. Dhani might get nervouse live like his Dad and just want to strum an acoustic guitar and not play solos as a lead guitarist. Paul would never let Sean/Julian and Dhani onstage unless James "Big Mac" McCartney was likewise invited on to jumpstart his "career" even though The Beatles were a quartet. Yeah, Beatles sons will never play with Paul and Ringo as Ringo would then want Zak as Ringo's customary second live drummer and there weren't two Beatles drumming on Ed Sullivan!

EVERYONE with any strand of Beatle DNA, or been married to a Beatle, should be on stage for "Hey Jude"; those that can play an instrument can grab one, and the rest can sing along in the chorus. Thus, if Jason and Lee Starkey want to be there, or their kids, they can "na-na-na" along with the rest of the world. Ditto for the five McCartney children and their offspring, Patti Boyd, Cynthia Lennon, etc. And those that don't want to be on stage in that capacity can't say they didn't have a chance.
Problem solved, next?

We will need to summarize, maybe in a new Thread dedicated just to that, all TV specials coming up on the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles conquering America. CNN normally has good programming.

We are all wondering if Paul & Ringo will play together next week on The Grammy's, or the CBS Special commemorating the 50th Anniversary of The Ed Sullivan Show.
Here's another fantasy what if;
or this;

So Steve; any scuttlebutt out there on who's slated to appear on the CBS special on The Beatles 50th Anniversary in America scheduled to be taped on Monday, Jan. 27 in Los Angeles? Besides Paul & Ringo?

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but basketball season is a very busy time for me. I have heard so much Beatles music on the radio so far in 2014. Of course they always get some play, but it has been way more than usual. Here's what I've heard (as memory serves) these past 3 weeks: I Saw Her Standing There, All My Loving (3 times), I Want To Hold Your Hand, I Should Have Known Better, I'm Happy Just To Dance With You, Day Tripper, We Can Work It Out, Hello Goodbye (twice), Ballad Of John & Yoko, Here Comes The Sun, Come Together and Let It Be. Also heard lots of solo music: Maybe I'm Amazed (twice), Band On The Run, Take It Away, Instant Karma, Imagine, Woman, My Sweet Lord, What Is Life, Bangladesh, Photograph and It Don't Come Easy. That's a lot of Beatles music when you consider I probably listen to no more than an hour a day average on the radio!

There may be a groundswell of excitement brewing out there. During the Broncos/Pats NFL game Sunday, there was a commercial for the Grammys and my non-Beatle friends actually commented on the announcement of Paul and Ringo being there. These people have mentioned Paul through the years for a new song of his they like or his Super Bowl appearance but that was the very first time they ever asked about Ringo! Paul and Ringo though are not the top bills in that commercial which is kind of surprising.

Thank you Sallyg!! Please let us know if you hear any news on who else might appear with Paul & Ringo on the CBS Special. Anyone know; Are Olivia and Yoko (Or Dhani & Sean/Julian) planning to join Paul & Ringo on The Grammy's to accept The Beatles Lifetime Achievement Award?

If I see any information on who will be there, I will post it here. It will be an exciting time for us Beatle fans next week with the Grammys and everything. Paul and Nancy were at Michelle Obama's 50th birthday party at the White House last Saturday night. They're probably staying here in the US unless they decided to go back to England for a few days.

PERFORMERS ANNOUNCED FOR BEATLES SPECIAL The first performances for "The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute To The Beatles" have been announced. Scheduled to perform are four-time GRAMMY winner Annie Lennox and GRAMMY winner Dave Stewart reuniting as Eurythmics for one night only; 14-time GRAMMY winner Alicia Keys with nine-time GRAMMY winner John Legend; three-time GRAMMY-winning group Maroon 5; and seven-time GRAMMY winner John Mayer with four-time GRAMMY winner Keith Urban. Additional performers and presenters will be announced shortly. The show will tape on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, the day after the 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards, and will be broadcast in HDTV and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network Sunday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT — exactly 50 years to the day, date, and time of the original event. Where are the old 60's groups? Or the old 60's rockers? CSNY? The Rascals? The Who? Elton John? Elvis Costello? Eric Clapton? Moody Blues? Stevie Wonder? Smokey Robinson? Little Richard? Santana? Etc., etc. What about Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band? I look at that list above; YAWN.......

This was posted on The Beatles website along with Capitol Albums releases. Nobody was talking about it so I didn't even know Steve had posted it. Sometimes there are so many different threads started on here about the same subject it's hard to follow a thought from one to the other. Other threads go off on stuff that has nothing to do with the original subject. It's often difficult to keep track of what has been said. Are you following me?

At any rate, the guest list so far is a snoozer imo. Except for the moment Paul & Ring get together and play, it might be more fun to be at Beatlefest in NYC (which I plan to be) than watching the TV Special.

No merged super Ringo All-Starr/McCartney band and please please no everybody get on the stage thing. Dhani and Sean would be cool-but I don't see it.

Okay, up the ass of that CBS Special if John Mayer is performing. I hate Mayer as much as I hate Sheryl Crow. Mayer is a big phony guitar summer camp kid who makes dumbass faces when he plays guitar, drops the "N" word when he is a rich white boy who has no right to do so(he did get in trouble with the African American Community as did this week skank Madonna for calling her 100% white son the "N" word) and whose music just sucks.
Screw John Mayer! He ruins this Beatles celebration for me.

I get riled up about John Mayer but I hate him so much. I passed up seeing my then newly discovered The Avett Brothers for the first time in 2010 because they were opening for Mayer in Indy! I waited until my boys were headliners. Had they opened for anyone else but Mayer(well, not Sheryl Crow either) I would have gone! Have fun sayne! Maybe as a guitarist of renown yourself you can appreciate Mayer. All I see is the stories of his relationships, his stupid, cocky public statements and that weird face he makes when playing, kind of like Joe Cocker's spastic posturing but just in Mayer's face.

I gave my macro prediction before, here is the micro one--the hottest selling of the individual titles will be YESTERDAY AND TODAY. Logic dictates that since it was not included in the box sets, yet is most closely associated with the butcher jobs we got in the USA because of the cover, it will be the one to chart the highest. I remembered writing this, so I went to Amazon--which is NOT the Billboard chart I deem to be the official one for the USA--just to get an idea as to which of the individual titles were selling the most. As of this minute, and that chart is updated by the hour, the box was at number 10, HEY JUDE was 30 and Y&T was at 33. Yesterday, Y&T was a bit ahead of HJ (a slot or two). The only other individual title I saw in the top 100 was AHDN. REVOLVER, the only other disc not in the first two Capitol boxes that is available individually was 183. I spot checked a couple of others; MEET THE BEATLES was at 211 and VI was 682. This is by no means anything from which to make broad sweeping statements with any degree of authority; still, it does appear that those that want the whole package are buying it, and those that just want to complete the first two Capitol boxes are doing that, but not as eagerly on AHDN and REVOLVER. The latter is clearly a rip-off, the former can be so classified unless one likes the instrumental tracks. JcS

Hmmm, maybe I don't have such a distaste because I don't keep up with his relationships--didn't he see Jennifer Love Hewitt at one time??--or read his public statements or ever watch him perform. I've heard a couple of albums--I know CONTINUUM was one of them. and a live album was another--and I liked them. I don't know that any songs of his are on my MP3 player except "In Repair." I think he plays guitar well, and I find nothing objectionable about his singing. In this case, I guess less (knowledge about extraneous things) is more (enjoyment of what is actually on the disc).
