I hope woolie's right and England kicks the living crap out of the U.S. in the World Cup tourney. I will be watching the Quidditch World Cup anyway. I clearly wrote this when I was a Beatles' wanker, you know, "sugar plum fairy, sugar plum fairy;" all you need is love; ob bla di, ob bla da; give peace a chance; , and granny music galore. Now I'm a Stones fan and a street fighting man; I have sympathy for the devil; everyone and everything is under my thumb; and my "Mr. Sensitive Guy" image is shattered. U.S.A., U.S.A., "Ya gotta believe!" "Do You believe in miracles!?" "Cubs Win, Cubs Win!" 1950 Miracle on Grass, Baby! England is great but prone to flashiness, frankly downright showboating by its superstars. The U.S. must maintain its composure, stay focused, be determined. President Obama has met the U.S. team and laid his hand on every member. England is so screwed!

Street Fighting Man: one foul-mouthed outburst from out star man, Rooney and the Americans will all be crying and wanting their mummies! England to win by three clear goals. I'll be passing round the cigars by half time! COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Of course, when I made my 'England victory' prediction I forgot momentarily about our country's proud and noble tradition of goal-keeping catastrophes and mega-blunders. Anyhow, 1-1 was a fair result and I shall save the cigars for England's appearance in the final in three week's time...

You're sounding a little like Maxwell Smart (I think) when he leans against something, like a wobbly table, and it breaks and causes him to fall down and he jumps back up and says, "I meant to do that." I may not know soccer, but I do know when one loses a 1-1 game and when one wins a tie. Oh, and I don't care what anyone says, BP IS British Petroleum, so take that. (Just stirring up a little rivalry in Group C).

I watched on boring old SD, so didn't see the ITV gaffe. I presume some nameless button pusher at ITV had a brain-storm at the vital moment -- they never show adverts on TV during the match itself. I wish to God they had stuck an advert on during the USA equaliser. I nearly put my fist through a plate glass coffee table when that goal went in!

Not so fast, Ursamajor! The mighty England have simply lulled you - and the rest of the world - into a false sense of security. They have duped you into thinking that we're an ill-tempered, error-strewn bunch of underperforming numpties. The Three Lions will now storm their way out of the qualifying group before dazzling and amazing the football world in the knockout stages.

Actually, the World Cup, thusfar, has been a poor advert for the Beautiful Game. Over-cautious stalemates played out against a cacophanous droning racket. I've yet to witness a decent game... ...the mighty England need to perform on Friday against Algeria to save the Tournament. England to the rescue!!

Congratulations to the Kiwi's on a well earnt draw against Slovakia. I hope they leave the WC with credibility, great start boys !!! The games haven't been as exciting and I believe it's to do with this new ball. Looks like the ball designers got it wrong. Perhaps they thought it was rugby and the ball has to sail over the posts.

In my never-ending quest to annoy my wife, I have ordered a blue Vuvuzela Horn to blow while watching Colts games next September. Not to worry gang, this article tells you how to remove the din of Vuvuzela Horns at the World Cup from your home a/v system: lifehacker.com/5564085/how-to-silence-vuvuzela-horns-with-an-eq-filter

Why not just turn the sound off? All I hear the announcers say is, "And he kicks it to the guy on his left. And that guy has just kicked to this other guy in front of him. That guy kicks it back to him. Number 25 gets the ball and sends it downfield to a guy on his team. That guy kicks it to a guy who hasn't kicked it, yet. He kicks it back to the first guy . . . "

Why not just turn the sound off? LOL! No kidding, I couldn't figure that article out but I am on a Board where folks like you, sayne, record music on the most advanced digital equipment and others are doing things on their home computers that NASA couldn't do in the 1960's! ;D Me the sound goes off although I do grab my blue Vuvuzela Horn and blow until the dogs howl and the little lady starts screaming.

But now the opening games are over the competition should start to open up and produce some better action. However given the apparent lightness of the ball I am concerned about the "beachball" factor. I remember "Malice In Sunderland" only too well. . As does Pepe Reina.

Spain ... WC favourites lose out to the Swiss.. let's see how they bounce back .. This is why the tournament needs a good England side performing well -- many of the favourties are flattering to deceive with their pretty passing movements, nicey-nicey brand of football and absolutely no guts, no thunder, no end product. Bring on the British Bulldog -- a bit of 'in-yer-face' attitude and some blood-and-thunder football England-style!!! The tournement needs us!! We are the mighty England!!!!COME ON ENGLAND!!!!

So, the US tied again! ;D JCV But we got screwed. We scored a third goal but it was disallowed for a mystery foul that the Ref wouldn't explain! Politics!

England 0....Algeria 0We were rubbish. We just looked like shadows of ourselves. It was like a collective nervous breakdown on the pitch. We looked inhibited... terrified. All sorts of inquests are going on in old Blighty today. To make matters worse, Rooney mouthed off at the fans as the team were being booed off at the end of the game. Fair play to Algeria. They bossed the first half and although they sat back a bit in the second we never looked like scoring. A draw, but a 'points victory' to the mighty and illustrious Desert Foxes. I raced back from a delivery in Bristol to watch that rubbish.

Most of the big teams are crap not just you guys but I think things will change once the first round is over, the big teams will step up you just have to beat Slovenia now. I was glad to see Germany lose, they're such a dirty team with their tackles and Serbia proved if you crowd their midfield and give them less space they struggle like everyone else. Argentina is looking good but their defence is suspect and hasn't been really tested yet. And of course Zew Zealand are flying under the radar at the moment, expect a goal-fest next game.

No I'm Greek but I worked there for 8 months in 2006 and I really liked it, I was based in Auckland and got to see the north and south island. The main sport is rugby and the All Blacks dominate the sporting landscape, so it's good to see them doing so well in soccer, erm football . At least they got a good result, better than the Australians are doing The Italians have got nothing, posers, we cut them down to size. Congratulations to Ricki Herbert and the boys they can hold their heads up high.

England and the USA both scrape through to the knockout stage! Slovenia 0....England 1England have been so rubbish during the tournament that I was determined not to get carried away during the game - stay cool and detached. By half time I was frothing at the mouth, using foul and abusive language and screaming like a banshee! I nearly put my foot through the TV when Rooney hit the post! We played reasonably well and created loads of chances. Typical England, we were sweating on a 1-0 lead at the end. We have to wait until tonight's game to see who we play in the final 16 game. It's a certainty England will get Germany!
