Thanks for that explanation lowbasso. I saw that guarantee so if I am reading you right, you and I and anyone else who are pre-ordered will get this book for no higher than the current base price of 74.40(plus shipping), perhaps lower if the price drops again, subject of course to the UK/UA conversion rate plus any applicable credit card fees for foreign purchases, if any.
I agree that the publishers have it ass-backwards, the better market for the expanded Volume I is easily the U.S. In the least, the expanded version should be an option everywhere and not simply by foreign purchase as we are having to do.

I'm in Liverpool at the moment and just attended a talk and book signing event with Mark Lewisohn. I'm much more enthusiastic about tbis book than I was before. He told me he's on a book tour in the USA in a couple of weeks. Check your local book stores.

There we go, the small print!
I have so much Beatles reading to catch up on. I have like two dozen still shrunk-wrapped Beatles related books never cracked yet. I buy them then put them in the "to Do" bin! Maybe I will put Lewisohn's book to the front.

Did you ask him: (1): Why in the world the extended Volume I is not scheduled at this writing to be released in the U.S., the most Beatles rabid market next to only (maybe) Japan; and (2) : Why in the world he would acknowledge Joseph C. Self in his new tome?

I asked him number two and he said "Joey Self." No Joseph stuff.
As for number one, his publisher wanted somethingf that would sell. I don't know who, beyond Beatle freaks, would buy the extended version.

You'd be surprised how many beatle freaks there are in America. Just look at the crowds at Paul's concerts. The standard version is not very expensive. Especially the e-book version.

Scousette, did you ask him if he's going to update the Recording Sessions book to cover the Anthology sessions in 94-95?

Steve; Can you find out Lewisohn's schedule of US cities he will visit in the next few weeks on his promotional tour of the new book? I cannot find any information on his website about that. I know he is in NYC on Oct. 25 at The Paly Center being interviewed by Allan Kozinn, but that is all. I won't be in NY then. I'll be in Miami singing. Would love to know the rest of his US itinerary, in case he passes thru South Florida.

Thanks Steve. That is a much better price and in reviewing my pending order, amazon.co.uk has given me that lower price in my order number. It was 120 pounds and 7 more for shipping when I ordered it on July 1, 2013. That is quite a savings. John: No need to reorder. You get the lower price because of the drop.

It was 120 pounds and 7 more for shipping when I ordered it on July 1, 2013. That is quite a savings. I have it ordered as well thru Amazon.com/UK and at the current price of 74.40 Pounds + shipping which brings the total to 81.38 Pounds. Amazon will not charge your credit card until the item ships. Since it is not scheduled to be released until Nov. 14, the price could change between now and then. Amazon guarantees you will get the lowest price listed at the time of the release, or at any time up until the release, if you have pre-ordered it. As to converting what you are paying in dollars, you can get an estimate now, BUT the conversion rate to US dollars will be determined by what the rate is when you are actually charged, somewhere around November 14. The conversion rate between US Dollars and UK Pounds fluctuates constantly, so there is no way to know what it will be a month from now when you make the purchase. And depending on what credit card you use, they will tack on a bit in the conversion as well. So you can only estimate your actual costs, even right up to the purchase dates. That is always the case when buying something in a foreign currency. That's why it pisses me off that Crown Books, which is publishing the book in the USA is not offering an extended version of this book. If they did, it would be priced in US Dollars. We are at the mercy of the conversion rates as well as the publisher's price in the UK for the extended version. If you were buying the book today it would be about USD $136. Today's published conversion rate is about 1 Pound = $1.59. But that is the published rate in the newspapers for conversions of more than $1 Million. Tack on about 3-5% more for the rate you will actually get. About 1 Pound = $1.65. The rate will be different one month from now on Nov. 14. I deal with conversion rates all the time in my business of singing, when I sing overseas and get paid in foreign currencies. I use xe.com for currency conversion. steve

Thanks Steve for re-posting Lewisohn's stops in US. Looks like he will only be in New York, L.A., and S.F. Oh well, I'll miss out being in Miami. I hoped maybe the guy who did Beatlebrunch out of the radio station in Ft. Lauderdale might get him down there. (What was that guy's name?)

For no particular reason other than I just thought of it, there is an old joke that goes: How do you pronounce the capital of Kentucky? Louis-ville, or Louie-ville? Scroll down for answer Farther Still going I pronounce it Frank-fort. Huh? I'm not getting it... About the Lewisohn book(s), I'm not sure if I want the current one or the super-sized not-yet-published one. I tend to think 900 pages or whatever is enough to tell the story ending before the first album! What do y'all think...?

If someone isn't thinking, they will fall into the trap of pronouncing the city you just said, and get it wrong. You can do the same for Nevada (do you say "LOS Vegas or LAS Vegas--the capital of that state is Carson City) or Missouri (Do you say "St. Louie or St. Louis", when it is Jefferson City.) 2. I think I am going to get the big one. Why not (other than price)? JcS

I will take everyone on this board, no matter where they live, on an all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas to see LOVE if Paul does NOT read the new Lewisohn book. I think he is full of sh%$ when he says he won't read it. Of course, you have to have 100% proof he doesn't read it to get the trip... Good Luck!

Wow, I just read that section and it was so very well written. I found myself intrigued and excited about the newly developing partnership of Lennon and McCartney all over again like it was fresh. I wasn't planning on buying or reading these books, but this was so very well stated.

On Friday October 25, the Paley Center (formerly the Museum of TV & Radio) in New York City held a special panel discussion on 'The Beatles Meet America', featuring Beatles author Mark Lewisohn and filmmaker Al Maysles, hosted by NY Times writer Allan Kozinn. Lewisohn was also promoting his new definitive Beatles biography 'Tune In'.
Kozinn and Lewisohn talked about the early American Rock music scene that helped to influence and shape the Beatles as a group before they actually stepped foot on American soil in February of 1964. Film clips were shown of the American artists who inspired them like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins, Fats Domino, Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran.
The famous Granada TV footage of the Beatles at the Cavern Club and scenes from the Maysles Brothers documentary of the Beatles first American visit were also screened. Maysles joined in the discussion and the panel took questions from members of the audience.
The members of the Fab 4 Free 4 All podcast were there and Mitch Axelrod of the group asked the question about Mark's thoughts on the song 'Early Years' from Paul McCartney's album 'NEW' which appeared to take Beatle authors to task about writing the groups' history when they weren't around when those events took place. Lewisohn answered the question honestly, that he felt a meticulously researched and neutral biography needed to be written, and he purposely did not conduct any new interviews with Paul and Ringo for the book, as he already had hours of previously recorded interviews and felt a more "authorized" book would be too controlled, which makes more sense in regard to a neutral look at the group's story.
Among others in the audience were Beatles convention promoter Mark Lapidos, Beatlefan writer Al Sussman and John Lennon's former assistant and girlfriend May Pang. Advance copies of Lewisohn's book 'Tune In' were available for sale at the Paley Center and were signed by Lewisohn. Meeting Mark again was great as he's a very interesting and humorous person and very gracious with his time, a real gentleman.
It was a fun and informative evening and we appreciated that the Paley Center held this wonderful Beatles event.
