Sometimes I really miss the days when someone released an album and that was IT. That was the album for all eternity. Then if you scored a bootleg with some outtakes it was a cool listen. Being a completest collector as I truly was has become impossible unless you're rich, and a bit crazy/stupid. I remember the ATMP remaster coming out very shortly after I purchased the original CD. I also bought GH and LIMW remasters. But I didn't have them in CD format to begin with except for a clone of LIMW. I will not but this box, though I might consider the individual Wonderwall release.

Being a completest collector as I truly was has become impossible unless you're rich, and a bit crazy/stupid. I was on my way to becoming a completest until I read somewhere words to this effect: "Everyone defines the parameters of his own collection." I saw that as I was chasing down some UK CD singles from Crowded House or U2, which contained songs that were costing me double per track what it would have cost on a full length CD. It was also around that time I discovered Napster, so I could hear those tracks that were before elusive. Now, it's YouTube. I didn't hunt down all the McCartney singles from CHAOS AND CREATION, I just listened to the songs on-line and my curiosity was sated. Nor have I been one to buy a new release just because it was remastered. (Well, OK, I did buy the 2009 Beatles remasters). David Bowie and Elvis Costello collectors have bought the same albums over and over to keep their collections intact. But that's because they define the parameters of their collection in such a way that they have to. Me, I'm not buying any of these new Harrison CDs except maybe MATERIAL WORLD; as I sit here, I don't think I own a copy of it on CD, and I'll think about getting one of them. Or I may just listen to it again on YouTube and be sated... JcS

Well, they are not jewel cases. They are just the miniature LP digisleeve jackets from the looks of them. I'd prefer they were the digipaks with the cd tray. On reexamination, the jackets have spines. They still don't look thick enough for a tray, but I'm not sure. I'd have to lose my job in the next few weeks before I'd pass this up. I'd certainly would rather have a rarities box set, but I'm still pretty excited about this.

I wish there were more and more of these remasters and re-releases. I can't believe how much money I'm saving!

As Steve reported, Paul McCartney is releasing a "Collector's" version of New with some type of bonus material. That is what I hate and Paul and Ringo are becoming experts at these deluxe, super-deluxe and super duper deluxe versions with our guys hoping we'll buy all three. I am still fuming over the deluxe RingoRama I bought only to have Ringo screw me by releasing the super duper pooper scooper version with extra video footage of zany Ringo and Mark Hudson!

But you have been very vocal about anxiously awaiting a super-duper version of WILD LIFE ! This has been nothing new for Paul, at least - he has always made you buy singles for extra B-sides, and so forth. So there will be a collector's version of NEW?? Yeessssss!!! It's one of the best albums he's ever made and I am thrilled!

I wish there were more and more of these remasters and re-releases. I can't believe how much money I'm saving! I don't buy each and every re-release myself either. But when I do, I justify it by thinking how much money others waste every year on cigarettes, booze, Football games, taking expensive trips to other countries, or whatever floats their boats. So whatever someone's saving their money on in one respect, they're likely spending money elsewhere that re-release buyers are saving. We are here for a very short time on this Earth. My feeling is to amuse yourself while you're here (as long as you can still pay the electric bill).

I remember back in the 60's, when The Beatles said we will not put our singles on our albums because we feel that is cheating our public by making them buy the same track twice...(Of course even that statement wasn't adheared to 100%) Boy have the times changed... And Paul & Ringo, as well as Apple/Sony are just as guilty as everyone else... Would Neil Aspinall be releasing all these "remasters" and "re-packages" of Beatles material if he was still alive and running Apple?

I remember back in the 60's, when The Beatles said we will not put our singles on our albums because we feel that is cheating our public by making them buy the same track twice? I know this was a real bargain back in the day and with good intentions, but personally I have always found it to be just the opposite. Way more irritating buying an LP and NOT having the "hit song" on it, and then having to go around playing with loose 45's and EP's in order to get all the music. I much prefer it all on the regular LPs.

I am going to buy this George Harrison Apple Years Box and envelope myself in early solo George!
I am wondering whether Dark Horse and Extra Texture can be rehabilitated by the remastering thus better sonics?
Living In The Material and Wings Wild Life were rehabilitated to me substantively once I got over 35. I assert that it is impossible for 18 to 35 year olds to fully appreciate those two albums as they haven't lived enough life yet.
I always liked John's Mind Games and Rock 'n' Roll but the sonics on the vinyl albums and then the first wave of CDs were lousy. Those remixed and remastered versions from the mid-2000's absolutely, positively rehabilitated those two albums bringing them to life, making them relevant and vital.
I am hoping the same happens to DH and ET with this boxset: that the hoped-for improved sonics will re-energize these albums!
I am excited about Wonderwall also. I liked the film and dug what I was hearing in the background.

I have "all" of George's solo stuff, multiple times in fact if you include vinyl, cd and mp3's. If the wife knew what i already had she would be asking "Why are you getting some of these albums AGAIN . Silence is golden.

Is anybody else disappointed that the same five bonus tracks from the 2001 reissue of "All Things Must Pass" were used instead of something else? What other rarities from the ATMP sessions do think would have made for good bonus tracks for the 2014 reissue?

As Steve Marinucci points out in today's Examiner article on George, PopMarket has this box for an amazing $99.99 but for only 19 more hours. I just bought it. I am excited. I want to envelope myself in early solo Apple George. BTW, a friend of a friend of a friend just got an email from Oxtango saying to be patient that those who pre-ordered the newest advertised releases will be greatly rewarded!

Search youtube Beck "Wah-Wah" 09/22/14 Beck did Wah-Wah. I was completely underwhelmed and disappointed in Beck's cover. I think he thought it was a Stones' tribute, that the song was "Jumping Jack Flash" and that he was Mick Jagger the way he jumped around stage clapping his hands! I really expected more but then again he was in some crummy TV studio with a crummy audience. I thought the old dinosaurs did it better at The Concert For George not to mention George's live version at Bangladesh.

It is tough to recreate the big sound of Wah Wah with only two turntables and a microphone.

Listened to the demo version of Dark Horse and I really liked it. George was in much better voice and I enjoyed the spare acoustic production and double tracked vocal harmonies. I wish he had put this version on the album originally instead of the "hoarse" version. He could have tweaked the demo with some additional instrumentation if had wanted to fill out the sound of the song. Glad it's available now, but would have been nice to have had it back when.

Well, I wouldn't have watched it anyway! Well I've been watching since back when Conan was a barbarian. Last night (which is tonight for us) Dhani Harrison appeared in a bit of banter with Conan. Dhani interviewBefore that he was singing Let it Down. Dhani Harrison singing - Let It DownAnd for everyone there is a web only bonus of one of my favourite George songs: Big Black Delta & Dhani Harrison - The Ballad of Sir Frankie CrispNot a bad version IMHO. AND BACK ON TOPIC.................... I won't be getting the box set but would like to know if Extra Texture sounds as dull as it ever did or did the engineers work some magic on it?

Extra Texture is now the greatest sounding album I've ever heard. The new master really brings out the kazoo sound in the sax on You.
Just kidding. I haven't listened to it yet. I bought the set for the shiny little box.
Texture has the extra texture on the jacket like the original LP did.
