What happened to that original Beatles ethos of not ripping off the fans? That went out of the window with A Collection Of Beatles Oldies (But Goldies). They trampled the corpse with the Rock And Roll remixes, closed the coffin with the EP collecting stereo B sides, performed a cackling dance around it with the World Records Beatles Box, and set fire to it with the UK Rarities album debacle.

I cannot believe "Où Est Le Soleil? (Tub Dub Mix)" is download only! That is a killer mix! And hey, Capitol says Paul "personally supervised" this re-issue! WTF does that mean and how is it different from Paul "personally curating" the songs on the amazing Pure McCartney compilation?! According to Dave Grohl, Macca is smoking a lot of dope again and while I think dope-smoking in moderation is good for Paul, he must be over-doing it as evidenced by this f'd-up FITD re-issue! Since you and Joe have expressed frustation over downloads, I will post this which Steve posted. There is a petition urging Macca not to include downloads as part of the FITD reissue. beatlesheadlines.blogspot.com/2016/12/internet-petition-demands-mccartney-not.html

The 80's is VERY retro right now and I have a feeling that's why the last few deluxe releases have leaned more towards his 80's stuff..It's sad but I have a strange feeling that we may get a deluxe blu ray release of "Give my Regards" before we get a "Let it Be" blu ray release..

That is a cool, rocking song! I can see though why it did not make the album but I am glad that it is being released. I have read Steve's reporting on the FITD digital download controversy and the statements from Paul's "agent" who is justifying not having one more CD in the deluxe box for about 20 songs but rather making them available only as a digital download. I personally do not like that decision but Paul is justifying it on staying cutting edge technology-wise and frankly, the profit margin on the deluxe boxes. Adding another CD would effect the bottom line and Paul's Rep said they are at about "break even" if I recall the article correctly. That has not stopped Bob Dylan who has found a market for deluxe boxes with a dozen or more CDs in the set! I would suggest we Beatles fans are just as willing to buy hardcopies of Paul's rare releases as Dylan fans are to buy his!

I thought the original boots sounded great, but this Elvis C collection to me is a Macca Holy Grail!!! It's about "f@#king" time, right Stella? ??

There is no excuse for Paul's box set not to contain all the material on physical discs. I am with you 100% on this Joe! So when this boxset is released, I want to spend a Saturday evening exploring it! I want to play the CDs and read the printed material so I am in my living room where the stereo system is located. Wait a minute, I want to enjoy those 20 or so tracks on download only. Now I must go in a different room where my computer is at and play these over crappy computer speakers or if I can download these to my iPod I can run them through the stereo but I must change the music delivery vehicle in which to do it. Damn-it Paul, just give us that extra compact disc with these songs! This is only offending the fans Paul needs to target most, the ones willing to buy these deluxe boxes. The public at large does not care but I have purchased all the deluxe boxsets thus far(even Macca II) and I feel Macca is almost defecating on me by saying: "Hey JSD you sucker, still pay big bucks for the deluxe box but I am going to make 20 really cool and vital songs to the FITD sessions available only by download. Phtttt"[raspberry noise Paul makes to us hardcopy buyers]

This was on Paul's Facebook page. Could be my favorite Paul demo. This is available now on iTunes, as well as the That Day is Done demo. I'm going to wait for my deluxe set. This is tempting though, to get it now.

Yeah, these demos are looking very interesting. Previously I have only bought the 2CD versions of these Archive Series albums on release. That got me the bonus audio discs of B-sides, etc. The "missing" CD from Flowers In The Dirt has messed up that strategy though. I will buy the box set this time. It's either do that or miss out on the the stupid download only B-sides and so on, plus the promising band demos as well. In fact, I've purchased a few of the older box sets just recently, so I might as well now look to get them all.

I am getting the Box. Is there anything on the 2 CD set not in the box?
Speaking of which, I downloaded today for free the demo of "Distractions" which I believe is not on any of the official releases, not even the bullshit downloads that come with the box!
But unlike the awesome demo for "MY Brave Face," the demo for "Distractions" sucks big time! Like Paul's demos for "Tug Of War" and "Pipes Of Peace," this demo is too slick, too polished and has no soul!

Nothing exclusive but you get to hold in your hand and look at it.Also, if you have your CDs in some sort of display case, you need it to replace the old disc. Mixed message. Do we download the track or not? Where did you get it?

Thanks Debjorgo for that info. I may buy the 2 CD version as my "go to" FITD since it sometimes is a pain to quickly pull the CD from the Box. The download of "Distractions" is at paulmccartney.com. I never liked the song itself but at least the FITD version has some feeling to it, some sense of passion. The demo is like "Robo-Paul" seeking a perfect demonstration recording to bring to the studio but charmless. I felt that way about the TOW and POP demos and even a great song like "Wanderlust" is heartless and passionless in demo form! Robo-Paul making demos with no heart, soul and passion!

I got mine in the mail today. I like how the album cover art covers the whole box. I don't like that the insert card doesn't have the next release shown. "For more information on forthcoming releases in the Paul McCartney Archive Collection please visit: www.paulmccartney.com"

The Cassette Tape Demo songs are there for download too.
I Don't Want to Confess Shallow Grave Mistress and Maid
Cool they are there but I'd still rather have a CD disc.

I am not overwhelmed by the remastering of the album itself. It is good but I am afraid the 1980's production overwhelms the sonics. For my money, Speed Of Sound is the most amazing Macca re-issue as to the re-mastering, that album now explodes out of my speakers. The "This One" video book: meh and what a weird way the book is put together, a double-sided front cover! The book of Linda's album cover photos gets old after the second photograph of those "flowers in the dirt." There is a reproduction of Paul's song notebook with the handwritten lyrics and an actual folder with reproductions of a Paul sketch used on one of the CD singles, lyrics and a letter from Elvis Costello that is cool. There is a book proper on the album which is nice, good photos and decent text.

CD Discs 2 & 3 and the DVD are worth the price of this Box! The Paul/Elvis Costello demos are fabulous! The DVD for once has some meat on its bones! Normally Apple/Paul give us f-ing 30 to 45 minute DVDs! This one is much longer. I am struggling with the FITD album itself because of the late 1980's production. And the sonics are not greatly improved by the remastering.

For my money, Speed Of Sound is the most amazing Macca re-issue as to the re-mastering, that album now explodes out of my speakers. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the Flowers in the Dirt album was produced and perfected using new computer technology of the day. Resulting in a very slick and technically perfect sound. I can't remember thinking about it back in 1989 when the album came out. We were well into the CD age by then but I think album prices were higher than they are today!!! But for all the major artists this was the way music production was heading. Noise reduction used to the maximum, every note processed to precision to a metronomic beat. With hindsight perhaps that technique squeezed the life out of a lot of music from that period? I've only got the 2CD set. The demos with Elvis Costello were the highlight for me. The remastering of Flowers in the Dirt to my ears has improved little from previous incarnations. A good solid album but not a great one in my opinion.

I should have learned my lesson because the same thing has happened now on multiple previous occasions. No sign of any version of Flowers In The Dirt in the several Adelaide record stores I have visited since Friday. I’ve therefore ordered the box from Amazon and should have it in about a week or so. I sent an email off to the main record store chain in Australia asking why they did not have anything in store, or even listed on their website yet. They told me that there was a delay but not the reason for the delay and that imported stock had to be specifically ordered in. That seems a bit strange to me since the previous boxes have all eventually appeared on their shelves for general sale. Amazon are apparently opening physical stores in Australia this year. The local retailers here are in various states of panic over this and that is now making me very happy.

For purchasing CDs my town only has Wal-Mart, that awful mega-retail store that puts all other stores out of business, and I went there last night thinking I could pick-up the 2 Disc FITD. Wrong! How depressing going through the half a row of music CDs Wal-Mart carries! Best Buy is the same and they once had great CD sections, several rows. I guess some artsy types opened a used record store in my town but no new CDs like this re-issued FITD. I wanted the 2-Disc version to take in the car. You can hardly travel with the boxset version as they are packaged in this very nice, book-size holder with cool photos of Paul on it. But it would get trashed in the car!

The 1993 one is part of The Paul McCartney Collection. Not personally curated by Paul, then. Very true Vectis! But the 2017 FITD says the album was remastered and packaged, "under the direct supervision of Paul McCartney." But I love "personally curated" better!

The new FITD DVD actually has meat on its bones, no 20 minute jobbie like Paul normally gives us on these!
The visual has not been restored so some of it is a little grainy but not bad. The audio is good enough.
One beef is I could not find a "Play All" option so in Section I, the music videos, there are like 10 of them so I had to use the remote to play through them after the last song had finished. I found no "Play All" to just hit and watch the videos automatically play one after the another. Small beef.
