Great photos Fred of our Beatles looking pretty campy in the 1970's like ABBA sometimes did(or often did).
I am too new to ABBA as a serious fan to argue their pros and cons other than to say that their hits are very strong, and not just all bubbly. There were two marriages in that band among the four members and thus two subsequent divorces so even Fleetwood Mac has nothing on ABBA as to romantic intrigue and heartbreak. ABBA's sad music is very poignant and their happy music is very joyful. I like the extremes of that.
I can thank the delightful movie Momma Mia for my newfound love: Agnetha Fältskog. The movie caused me to get on YouTube and watch all the ABBA videos and dust off my ABBA GOLD c.d. I watched and listened to her in all the old videos and suddenly Pattie Boyd Harrison Clapton became meaningless to me, a nothing.
I am devoting my life henceforth to Agnetha. She doesn't know it yet.

I am devoting my life henceforth to Agnetha. She doesn't know it yet. Okay, here's the bar. Can you reach it? In the movie Priscilla , Queen of the Desert, one of the main characters (who is drag queen) tells a story that illustrates how much ABBA meant to him. He says he was in a bar or something and one or all of ABBA were there. One of the girls (I'm not sure which one) went into the bathroom. He followed her. She went into the stall to do her business. When she left, he went into the stall and noticed that she left a little round, ahem, let's call it a "piece of the action." He scooped it up and later placed it in a little glass tube that he carries around with him all the time. ;D ;D ;D Now that's adoration. John, are you up that standard of devotion?

Let the debate begin! And the standard continues to fall, and fall, and fall ... Breaking my own rule here, but this is from the 'Electric Arguments' thread: New rule: Anyone dissing ABBA on this board gets banned.

Breaking my own rule here, but this is from the 'Electric Arguments' thread: New rule: Anyone dissing ABBA on this board gets banned. (1) What rule is that Freddy? Is that the rule where the nasty posters disagree with you and make you sad, so you pretend they're not there? Oh! (2) It's interesting that you think I was dissing Abba. Did you consider the idea that I was having a go at you for starting another simplistic thread?

If you look real hard, you'll find a few threads I've started.
I'm always fascinated by people who say to others "Why don't you do such and such?" when those others clearly have!
I'm also amazed how some people don't understand what they write themselves. If you examine your statement: you will find that you have inadvertently agreed with me that those threads are goofy! Good one!

Perhaps Revolver66 should have put your term in quotes -- "Goofy Threads". But you're trying to catch him on semantics; I know what he was getting at, and he's right ... you CAN'T resist posting in those "Goofy Threads".

I'm doing more than trying to catch him on semantics: I'm succeeding. And what's wrong with that? He's using words - wrongly as it happens, producing a meaning he did not wish to convey (according to you). And I called him on it. If posters are trying to have a dig at me, they should realize (as you surely do) that I have a good collection of spades and picks to dig right back.

As I see it they are Goofy Threads but I unlike you have no problem with them. Yes I've seen that you have started some posts but obviously the Goofy ones were more worthy of posting on!! You should lighten up a bit!! I did add a lol after my post to you to show that it was done with a bit of jest. However you do seem to complain alot..also you are often condenscending. Maybe it's you that just doesn't get it. I mean this isn't Rocket Sceince..it's a Beatles Fan Message Board for crying out loud so have some fun with it and relax..and hey your not the only one who has picks & spades.

[(A), (B) & (C), and underlines added by me.] (A) Can't you tell that my comments on the goofy threads are light-hearted? What else could they be? (B) I'll refrain from pointing out the interesting typo here (if typo it be). (C) No, but I use them beter than most.

. . . And I called him on it. I think THAT is the crux of what Joseph McCabe is doing and why he is garnering so much blow(hard)back. I don't know him, but based on what I've read, my sense is that he allows for dissent. He understands that it's okay for people to have contrary opinions. AND, I'm sure he will admit to being wrong - especially when I put him in his place ;D But, he being relatively new here, I think he has noticed there are people on this board who are wrong about their facts, pass opinions off as facts, regurgitate stuff they've read as their own thoughts, pontificate their tiny and not so clever ideas as a major exegesis, spin and twist things people say to make their point, believe their memorabilia and brief encounters give them major Beatle and music legitimacy, and totally miss the point of what made the Beatles the BEATLES, etc, and he nails them on it, and no one likes to be found out. Now, I could NEVER be accused of having EVER done any of the above. After all, having actually seen the Beatles in concert and the Concert for George makes me a god around here and automatically makes my opinions gold ;D, but if I ever did, I'm sure John (oops, Joseph) would call me on it, and rightfully so. I think it is fair, as long as one is referring to what the person has said or done, rather than the person themselves. It's granted, though, that sometimes the person and what they have said or done are so closely linked that it is hard to separate one from the other, so it looks like a person is being flamed when it is actually their ideas. That happens. I'm not trying to make peace around here or to defend Joseph McCabe. (By the way, I think all those "We love you SexieSadie, please stay!" posts are becoming a bit treackly. They strike me as kinda Dudley Do-Right rescuing Nell -ish). I'm simply trying to comment on how I see people's responses to Joseph's posts.

First off Sayne I have no problem with Sir Joseph..lol.. but he called me on what? While he thought he was being clever he really wasn't and I called him on that(and if I feel someone is being condescending to me I will retaliate). Some of the things you say in the above post actually apply to McCabe! Next why don't you just get to the point and say who these people actually are that you are describing in your post above cause I know your not talking about me A message board is bound to have posts that some find fun and interesting while others see them as a waste of time(so don't post if you feel that way). If you are tired of the Dudley Do Right stuff then come up with some posts that people will care about. I think the word that comes to mind is Respect. Don't expect it if you don't give it. Nuff Said!

No. When you resort to negative, personal attacks, you're wrong. I called you on it on the 'First Album' thread. Let's agree to be civil and just stick to the discussion on the threads and keep away from being personal. That should go for everyone.
