I wrote about that Rolling Stone article three days ago. Stone's already had a couple of articles on it.

What record label is Paul now on? I worry a little that Paul has used four producers including some currently hot ones like the guy who produces Adele. I think of the Press To Play disaster when Paul went with the then red-hot producer of Phil Collins but with final results very unlike Phil who everything he touched back then went to #1. Oh well, we need new Paul. Is this one of his longer gaps between new, original music? His last release excluding Sirvana's Cut Me Some Slack from 2012 is I Want To Come Home from November 2010. Last full album was Nov. 2008 Fireman album Electric Arguments. Last Paul McCartney album Memory Almost Full from June 2007. And we thought it was a long time between Off The Ground (Jan. 1993) and Flaming Pie (May 1997). Remember between Flaming Pie and Driving Rain (Oct. 2001) was Run Devil Run and Working Classical in late 1999. So this has been the longest between albums.

This came up on Facebook?
Paul's brand new single will be released tomorrow according to reliable sources. His new album will also be available by 'presale' through iTunes. The album is slated for a release date of October 14th and we will keep you posted.
another?
Paul's new single or album called "NEW" ?
Macca's twitter account (@paulmccartney) has been busy tweeting 'one word' clues to the title of the album or single. They all seem to have one word in common, "NEW"...
RUMORS: The first single from the album is to hit radio the first week in September with the single release to follow and the album on October 14th. Stay tuned...

Hi Rocko! Hey, if Paul's new album comes out in the U.S. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013(Tuesdays are our new album day) then it will be the same day as the new album from my beloved The Avett Brothers! TAB just released an album last September and that was the same day Bob Dylan released his Tempest! This year it is The Avett Brothers and Paul McCartney on the same release day: destiny my friends!

Well, there goes that number 1 debut Paul fans have been waiting for.
Paul doesn't have enough fans buying ITunes tracks to make a difference in the ITunes charts but enough will buy it there to keep it out of Billboard's top twenty. Paul must be taking tips from James on how not to have a hit album.

I bought New, the song, from iTunes and have played it a few times now. I had been hoping for a rock tune rather than pop, but find it enjoyable anyway and apparently there are at least a couple of rock numbers to be featured on the upcoming album. Paul's voice is fairly good throughout and I like the use of horns. I haven't paid much attention to the lyrics as yet - that's the way I normally approach listening to anything new - I first judge how it sounds and if the words are good, then that's a bonus. Looking forward to buying the full album in October.

I just saw it come up on my Facebook as well and had a listen, it wasn't what I was expecting either. It's ok but I'm kind of disappointed like I was with A Fine Line.

My first impression of this new song is that it is appealing to me. Nothing exceptional... it's typical Paul Pop... but I do like it on first listen (and a second listen made it even better). Seems very short in length though..? I hope the actual song/album title does not turn out to be "NEW", though... no imagination there...
One thing I don't understand -- why would someone "buy" this song on Itunes? You can just hit a link like this on YouTube if you want to hear it, and eventually buy the CD/vinyl...

Good one Paul.. I like it, it's got a good tempo and doesn't come across as a Silly Love Song. I've heard it twice so far and I've still got No Idea what he's singing about.

When We Was Fab redux...I think the music is pretty good-love the bass and horns, good old Paul hooks.
The lyrics are simple-trite like. "we can do what we want we can do as we choose"-Freedom like redux.
A+ on music and melody C on lyrics
gonna suck live with Wix in lieu of real horns. It will sound real, but we'll know it is keyboards.

My worry just hearing it over the computer is are those real horns? Have the credits been released? Real horns = good. Synth horns = bullshit.
It is okay, it reminded me of "Ever Present Past" and at times I even heard kind of the jaunty musical backing to John's "Intuition" in "New." LOL, Paul is "reclaiming" "Intuition."
And yes, the lyrics don't strike a chord with my imagination like almost all lyrics did from Paul's sublime EA.
From A to F grade, a C from me.

Mike, you are a working songwriter/musician. I do not fault you in the least for the use of keyboard horns. Sir Paul could afford the London Symphony Orchestra on every recording and every concert he does but he still uses old Wix which sounds cheap and fakey(as great as Wix is). In fact, Paul doesn't use Wix for recording does he as Paul does it all now it seems and has done so since after Driving Rain, the only album which did incorporate almost all of his touring band except maybe Brian. LOL, maybe Paul doesn't want to pay Wix for recordings so he does his own keyboard horns in the studio! Mike, do the horns on "New" sound real to you? I hope they are real as I would like the song a whole lot more! I could not stomach the 2013 live "Listen To What The Man Said" with the fake horns as that is the best solo Beatle song in terms of horn use!

Well, it was nice to wake up this morning and hear the NEW McCartney single. How many more NEW opportunities are we going to have? The first time listens of NEW music is getting rarer and some sad day, there will be no more. I personally love it. It's what Paul does best. Write a catchy tune that sticks in your head while lifting your spirits. I think it sounds a bit Brian Wilson and that's OK with me.

They definitely sounded compressed, I'm just hoping it it's the quality of the release. My current drummer can play horns and I have considered him overdubbing on my new song (which strangely sounds like Paul's "New", but I wrote it years ago influenced by Penny Lane, Good Vibrations and the Cowsills!) Not sure if I want to add a "Core" guy to a "Cusper" recording!

On further listenings I'm liking it more. If we are giving grades then it's a B+ from me at this point and I might eventually go higher. I don't know if the horns are real or fake, but they sound just fine to me, as does the production generally.

Okay, I am excited that there is new original Paul. I think this song will grow on me too once I hear it in good sonics and I am assured those are real horns!
I am harping on horns because why put them on a record if they are fake. I am into the Alt-Folk explosion and that movement is people playing real instruments that make the music real. Paul is so good he deserves real horns on his songs!
I also like right off the bat that Paul keeps the song at 2:59 in length. Too many times Paul will stretch these songs out too long to over 4:30. Not here and that is good.
I am excited because October 15, 2013 means new Paul McCartney and new The Avett Brothers. That will be a historic day in my life.

I'm not a big fan of horns, real or fake.
I just got the new Sly and the Family Stone 5 disc best of release. For some strange reason, only seven or eight songs loaded on to my I-pod. So I kept hitting the skip button and it was the same songs over and over again. I didn't know the songs so I didn't realize it was the same songs. It was like early Chicago without the cool guitar. I was going nuts. Skip, skip, skip. Just let a hit come up. It never happened. Luckily I have all the songs on my I-pod now and it's some pretty good jams.
I'm not in a big hurry to get this Paul.

The Avett Brothers, I downloaded their whole catalogue a year or 2 ago based on your affection for them JSD, I can't comment on the albums though because I never listened to them.

I like it, too! It's bouncy and melodic, and best of all, it doesn't sound like hip-hop (unlike 95% of the stuff on the radio anymore)

I quite like it. The lyrics have a double meaning: it could be about a new love, or, it can describe his relationship with John Lennon. Looking forward to the album when it comes out.

On Paul's web site it has the following quote from the song: "We can do what we want, we can live as we choose." Then it says the track hints at things to come from the "New" album. I think that the above quote in Paul's new song can have interesting interpretations for many people. www.paulmccartney.com/

I think its great including the lyrics. Its a song about reaching and awakening your potential and living your life as a self-actualized happy human being witrh no regrets about what you didnt't do. Its awakening because he said all his life he didn't know how much he could accomplish, he kept pushing himself and found success that way. He is saying we don't know that "when we are new" but we must discover this for ourselves. Very wise.
I like the line about there being no guarantees in life and we should go for it--we've got nothing to lose. Also he says don't look at me, I can't tell you what you want to be, but I can tell you that is the truth. You need to go for it. It a combination of Hey Jude encourangement and Too Many People self-determination (don't let them tell you what you want to be". He is saying when life was new he had no idea he would accomplish what he did, but look at him now.
At the end he repeats "when we were new" and then he changes it to "now we are new" meaning its a never ending process and never too late. We can learn how we can live our life and be happy and successful and we have the freedom to do so. So go for it. I think the lyric, though a bit oblique, really speaks to young people (of all ages).

I think its great including the lyrics. I wouldn't have expected any other reaction from you, RTP. That's a very apt interpretation. However, you speak as if you're positive of it here -- are you really Sir Paul? You mean he is bashing John on "New" as he did on "Too Many People"? I like the song, but let's not get crazy. It's nothing profound or really exceptionally different from Macca. Oooooh-oooooh!
