For a believer, man's laws are puny next to the power of God. For a non-believer, let's just hope he has no anti-social tendancies. If he thinks he has nothing to lose and thinks he won't get caught, look out. The problem is, that according to his book the only crime he can't forgive is non-belief. Committing any other crime still gets you into heaven. So I say again, that's no basis for a form of government or justice. Especially since there's no actual evidence of an afterlife and people get punished. Your first two sentences are just incorrect. If you are not sincere in your heart that you regret committing a serious crime, there is no forgiveness. And I am convinced that if you are sincere about regreting your lack of faith, you will not be denied. That is what is so beautiful about Christianity. Even the most disbelieving dolt who can demonstrate true contrition can be included.

Its not a straight line, its a circle. I do agree with you here. I believe the differences between the ultra-Conservatives and the ultra-Liberals is actually very small. Nazi's on the right, Russian Communists on the left. People blowing up Planned Parenthood clinics, people blowing up animal experiment facilities. Yup, two sides of the same coin to me.

. . . Conservatives are not against consenting adults doing what they want in their own bedrooms. The just don't want it forced on them . . . Oh, really? When many conservatives see two men or two women kissing each other, they will say "I don't want to be forced to seeing that." So they want laws that will protect them from seeing "the gay." They may see themselves as being very "progressive" when they say such things as "I don't care if you're gay, but be gay in your own house, not where I can see it." . . . Oh, I forgot this: Conservatives are advocating for the unborn baby, not the mother who should know better and that even if the prophelactic and birth control pills fail, she has a responsibiltiy because it was she who let someone into the Oval Orafice. So, the man has no culpability in this? There is not one male dominated culture that does not put the blame on women when it comes to issues of gender. It's her fault she got pregnant, it's her fault she did not give me a male child, it's her fault she got raped, it's her fault that I could not control myself after she said "no," etc. It was Eve's fault Adam ate the apple. Jeez! Men need to "man up." Ultimately it is the females responsibility unless it is rape. I know it takes a man and a woman, but she can say "no". The problem is not enough are saying "no". I am not saying males don't have any responsibility in the case of an unwanted baby. But if you don't want your child to be harmed, don't let him play in the street.

For a song called "New" is there anything particularly new about it? That's got nothing to do with it. The word "New" is not as if to say "Here Is My New Song" -- it is a song about a relationship "when it was New" (or "when WE were New")..

So they want laws that will protect them from seeing "the gay." I can watch two women tongue kissing all day long and love it. However, I am completely turned off by seeing two men smooching. What I resent is being labeled "phobic" because I naturally get "the willies" at seeing two men salivating together; as a hetero this is inherently and naturally disgusting to me, and I would rather not see it. But I don't appreciate being criticized as "intolerant" or "blankety-blank Phobic" merely because I am wired "normally" in that area. There is always a movement to get everyone to accept everything, and the suggestion is that if I don't want to see two men making out, it is "I" who have "a problem".

I just thought that it was a little ironic that a song titled "New" sounds like the same old stuff to me.

Conservatives are not against consenting adults doing what they want in their own bedrooms. The just don't want it forced on them. They don't want them using the public parks as their master bedroom and the beaches as their private backyard. Damn, Pepper. I didn't realize you'd had gay sex forced on you so many times. You ever think maybe you're sending out some kind of signal?

I'm pretty sure when you die, they ask you if you believe Jesus Christ is the son of God. If you say yes, Allah sends you straight to hell. Following Christ is worse than being Jewish. Well almost as bad.
You're not reading the Living Koran, are you Pepper? Be careful. Very, very careful....

When we die we all go to heaven. Thats my understanding. Some of us are just taking the scenic route on the way there.

My, you take things literally. I do? Based on this? Anyway, as is often explained, it's not as easy to discern what people mean in writing like it is when you see and hear them in person. Are you saying I should not take you seriously?

Then the rest of what you said doesn't make any sense except to demonstrate that non-belief is the only sin you go to hell for. I'm not sure what happens after death any more than anyone else, but one thing I figure is there's no point in saying "it makes no sense" to US. Because if what RTP is saying is true, it's not up to us to make sense of it or understand it; I'd think it would be God's business and 'rules' , whether they make sense to mortal man or not.

Rotting chimpanzee meat is what we end up as is my best guess. The point I'm making is that RTP said that God's law should take precedent over the law's of men and I disagree. By that theology John Lennon's murderer should not be punished here on earth because God will deal with him in an afterlife. I mean he did say he was sorry and all that. As long as you believe then you get into heaven no matter what. There may be a little bit of fire burning because you did something bad but it's worse if you don't believe. This is from someone who was brought up catholic and spent many years sat in school (run by catholic brothers) and church cross-eyed at the logic of it all. Doesn't mean there's no God, just that you can't base a government or a justice system on it.

A friend of mine wanted to get vengeance against this jerk who had screwed him over. I tried to tone him down by telling: "His karma will take care of itself." (i.e.. "what goes around comes around") To which my friend said: "Yeah but sometimes i can be the agent of that karma."
So i guess both points are equally true.

[/quote] As progressive and open-minded as I think I am...seeing two guys of any looks making out might make me cringe a bit-I have to be honest. Even watching a hetero couple going at it in public would prompt me to say "get a room". But Roseanne and Honey Boo Boo's mom going at it would just make me run to the "terlit"

I am gone a day and there is talk on women kissing and suddenly though it is Honey Boo mom kissing Roseanne!
Reminds me of a situation I had in November 1995 where one gal looked like actress Brett Butler(Grace Under Fire) but if on meth and the other gal had green teeth and asked me to go with them for a nighttime cruise with them deep into the country after I met them in a redneck bar.
The Brett Butler one said in a Southern drawl, "This is your lucky night, mister!"
Of course I went! Howard Stern dream situations only present themselves once to a fellow in his lifetime and what's wrong with green teeth in the dark!?
How 'bout that new Paul album!

After just 3 listens i find myself humming it involuntarily. This surely isnt late breaking news but Paul sure has the ability to drill a melody into your brain.

Well if I had a choice of Brett Butler on meth, a (unknown looks) girl with green teeth, Roseanne and Momma Boo Boo, I would pick Brett Butler on meth 4, but would probably put cute (but probably male?) little "Bear" Boo Boo ahead of all of them . "Hey Boo Boo-do I detect a pic-a-nic basket??"
