So the Amazon UK site claims the cd is only available in that edition. This sucks. You wait and wait for some of the amazing unreleased George material and they make the loyal fans shell out a fortune for the odd track or measly single cd. It's not cool to do this to the fans.
Lets give Yoko credit, when she put out John's material it was at standard pricing, up until the bouns in the new Lennon CD collection. George's stuff is always tucked in with material you've already bought or out at premium prices. If it's made available at all.

Remember when George had the (expensive) book that had the CDs in the back with the rare tracks. On the new release, why is there 2 dvds but only 1 blu-ray? And why would you need dvds if you have the blu-ray? Aren't pounds worth about the same as dollars these days? I've been trying to budget the Paul reissues. I'll find the money for this. After all, I'm pretty sure Beatles product is why I work.

I just ordered HBO for George's movie (and for the Sarah Palin special on Sept. 3--I know some people think she is evil incarnate). I think it is time George got his due. Maybe we do underappreciate the Beatles solo work. Certainly Beatle George deserves more credit. I understand that in the documnentary Paul says something like "anyone who thinks the Beatles didn't need George as much as John or I is wildly mistaken". Bravo. I always thought George was as talented as John and Paul but that 1. He didn't have the attention or partnership of anyone else, 2. He starting songwriting after he became famous and therefore made his mistakes more in public 3. He was a bit slower in developing as a songwriter and 4. He was not a prolific but quantity doesn't equal quality. I was a bit hard on ATMP. Its actually one of my favorite post-Beatles albums. I didn't expect this from you, given your prior statements. I agree with what you've said here. The Beatles were the Beatles because they had 4 amazing talents, what other band can say that? George was part of the chemistry that made them the Beatles as we know them. If one piece is out of place, it generally doesn't work---witness Pete Best vs. Ringo Starr as an example. I am convinced Geroge made them much better than they would have otherwise been. He wrote less songs, but the one's he wrote were powerful and meaningful. I think Paul did sometimes slack off on the lyrics and instead rely on his melodic gifits instead because it was easier for him. It doesn't diminish him in any way in my eyes. It seems like when Wings began he was less into writing great lyrics. The two albums before that were better in terms of lyrics (McCartney (excluding the instrumentals) and Ram that is). Then later (in the 80s and again more recently) he took more time with them. An exception is Driving Rain where he was in that mood of not refining the lyrics very much. Remember the line from From A lover to a Friend: And when the time comes around We will be duty bound To tell the through of what we've seen And what we haven't found Will not be going down Despite too easy ride to see I like the first few lines. That last line especially--I wish I knew what it meant. Anyone guess? Does easy ride refer to his wealth and the things he didn't see because he was shielded by it?

Is it any easier to interpret when seen in the context of the whole song.... And when the time comes around We will be duty bound To tell the through of what we've seen And what we haven't found Will not be going down Despite too easy ride to see From a lover to a friend Take your own advice Let me love again Now that you turned out to be Someone I can trust Someone I believe Ohh la la la How can I walk when I can't find a way I have a dilemma All I want is to tell me You're going to take it away From a lover to a friend Take your own advice Let me love again Now that you turned out to be Someone I can trust Someone I believe And what we haven't found Will not be going down Despite too easy ride to see From a lover to a friend You turned out to be Someone I believe From a lover to a friend Take your own advice Let me love again Ohh la la la How can I walk when I can't find a way I have a dilemma All I want is to tell me You're going to take it away From a lover to a friend From a lover to a friend From a lover to a friend Let me love again [ Lyrics from: www.lyricsfreak.com/p/paul+mccartney/from+a+lover+to+a+friend_20105619.html ]

I't doesn't make any real sense but that could've been because it's exceptionally bad grammar or that it's been altered to fit the melody and so it's lost it's real meaning....
It's most likely hooch inspired, meaningless dribble...

And when the time comes around To tell the through of what we've seen It's most likely hooch inspired, meaningless dribble... (To tell the truth of what we've seen) "hooch inspired", no that's Monkberry Moon Delight. Those are strange lyrics. Don't ask me. And what about those lyrics to House of Wax: Lightning hits the house of wax Poets spill out on the street To set alight the incomplete Remainders of the future Hidden in the yard. Hidden in the yard. Thunder drowns the trumpets blast Poets scatter through the night But they can only dream of flight Away from their confusion Hidden in the yard. Underneath the wall Buried deep below a thousand layers lay the answer to it all Lightning hits the house of wax Woman scream and run around To dance upon the battleground Like wild demented horses Hidden in the yard. Underneath the wall Buried deep below a thousand layers lay the answer to it all Now there's some confounding lyrics.

To bring this back to George. He wrote some unused lines to Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man, "When the truth gets buried deep, beneath a thousand years of sleep, time demands a turn around, and once again the truth is found". Pretty close, huh? Maybe Paul lyrics for Lover to a Friend reference something else. Thanks to SongMeanings.com and thebeckles for the House of Wax and the Hurdy Gurdy lyrics.

It was when he was falling in love with Heather Mills (you turned out to be someone I can trust, someone I believe). The dilemma was Linda's memory and Paul's love for Heather. He is asking Linda to "let me love again" or give me permission to marry Heather. At that moment a white squirrel came up to him, nodded its head and the wedding was on.

Nah, she's just an undereducated person with a lot of belief in herself. She has no qualifications for federal office. If she becomes president we well may have 4 years more disasterous the the W years, and that is really saying something. You skipped over the last three O years or is it "zero" years. I don't want to get anythingn started but President Obama didn't have any more qualifications than Mrs. Palin. At least she has the ideas and principles that would benefit our business sector and job creaton IMO. I'm not going to say President Obama doesn't have regard for our country, but if he loves it so much why does he want to "fundamentally transform" it. Mr. President. keep the change.

So if you don't subscribe to HBO then in the USA, you can't see it, and there is no scheduled release yet of the Scorcese film on DVD in the USA? I saw nothing listed on Amazon. Only the UK will get a DVD version as of right now?

Can anyone clarify Paul Theroux's relation to George?? Was he just a fan, or what? Theroux was in the news a few years ago when he spoke out (actually "wrote out") against Bono's activism on behalf of Africa.
George is on the cover of Rolling Stone this month. And finally, there's a photo of him and Dylan playing tennis at the Isle of Wight!

Any Floyd fans out there? I'm getting the Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here deluxe sets.
I'm picking up every McCartney deluxe set that comes out. I like the McCartney album so much I bought the two disc version as well. I would have did the same with Band on the Run but I have the 25th Aniversary Edition.
I'm subscribing to Showtime for the McCartney 911 special, then I'm switching to HBO for the George special. (I had that backwards. I love the edit feature here.)
I always wanted to retire early but I guess that's just not in the cards. And it's kind of like the old days, living from paycheck to paycheck.

Found this on Greg's Beatle Photo Blog from someone who was commenting on a photo of George;
"If anyone is interested (and I know there are alot of HARRISON fans out there) but LIFE magazine is publishing a 10 year anniversay of George’s ‘passing’ due out on October 18 – it’s titled LIFE REMBERING GEORGE HARRISON 10 YEARS LATER and then on November 15 a new book titled WORKING CLASS MYSTIC – A SPIRITUAL BIOGRAPHY OF GEORGE HARRISON. So for the next few months I will be (and hope all of you as well) can take advantage of all these wonderful publications coming out and that’s not including the latest one GEORGE HARRISON – LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD."

Sometimes those are more fun than the red carpet, boring stuff. ;D Okay, this reminds me of the weeks leading up to Anthology as friends and family are texting me(for Anthology it wasn't even e-mailing yet but still calling by telephone) asking if I've heard about this Harrison film. "No," I reply, "I've only devoted the last 36 years of my life to a cult-like worship of all things Beatles so naturally I have not heard about a documentary about George Harrison made by the famous Martin Scorsese." Of course, none of these helpful pundits get HBO so to help me out on watching this!

Might go for a Chinese though at the Tai Pan.

Steve, Read your review of the upcoming G. Harrison film. Looking forward to it.
It's good that this film will have comments by Patti, Yoko, Astrid, Klaus, and Olivia. IMO; The most gaping hole in the Beatles Anthology was the fact that the Beatle wives and girlfriend (Jane Asher) never gave their perspective on the band's history. I know the Anthology's point of view was primarily from the four Fabs, however we did have a lot of comments from Neil Aspinall, Derek Taylor, G. Martin, and a few others. Yet the fact that the women (and of course Pete Best) were excluded from speaking in that series was a mistake. I look forward to Mr. Scorcese's film which will give all the most important people in George's life a chance to put their recollections on record. You didn't mention if Ravi Shankar was interviewed for this film?

Well we went yesterday to see the film. For some reason the traffic was snarled up and then we couldn't find anywhere to park, so we only just made it in time. I won't say too much because it will spoil surprises but I can guarantee there are things in there that nobody will have seen before. I agree with people who say there is too much concentration on the Beatle years, when I thought we might have seen more from later times. I had hoped for footage from the Japan Tour or the Albert Hall show but the our wasn't even mentioned. There was stuff from he 74 tour though. My favourite bit was George & Paul & the 'vegetarian leather jacket' from the Anthology filming. :-D ...and what's with Patti & Bill Wymen at the London premiere? Are they an item or just catching up on old times?
