I love your enthusiasm anyoneanyhow but that is a tall order if Ringo's sales figures for the last 25 years are any indication. I will legally buy the album to help sales although I now see from debjorgo's post that there must be the obligatory "deluxe" version. I'll see if I can find it somewhere, probably amazon, since I live in a land where new Ringo Starr c.d.s long ago disappeared from the shelves of retailers. Purely tongue in cheek, John, in case there's a doubt. You actually have cd retailers in your neck of the woods? I wondered where they got to. What I don't get, is why doesn't Ringo sell his latest CD's at his concerts like so many acts do? That is his core potential market. He could probably double the sales of his cd's (to 24 from 12, say) if he did that. Unless he doesn't want to detract from t-shirt sales? LOL! You got me there! I like your idea of Ringo selling the c.d. at his All-Starr concerts. I am still shaking my head at how my wife wanted to bed Ringo after seeing him at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana two years ago. She had never expressed the least interest in him until we sat right up by the stage and he was wearing his tight black jeans. Hey, if I catch Ringo with my wife, I wonder if he would then sign an autograph for me, "You owe me Ringo!" With my luck, Ringo would say, "No you owe me" and I would have to pay him for that experience! ;D

Steve says Ringo is doing a huge media blitz this week to promote his new album.
Does that include a loving, smiling, happy-go-lucky Ringo like he used to be in his Beatle days who is happy to sign autographs for his adoring fans who will buy his CD? ;D
Maybe even speak FONDLY of his hometown when asked in interviews about it? ;D

Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge collectors who do buy autographs and your example is a good one, Joe. That sounds like a neat thing to have. I just haven't done it. If someone offered me an Abbey Road vinyl album cover signed by all four for a reasonable "fire sale" price, I might buy that. Wow, I wonder if there is such a signed AR cover by all four as the lads were probably not in one place very often after that album was released. I have to imagine there are many more all four signed early albums than later ones. A record shop in Cape Cod was showing a Hey Jude (or Beatles Again) cover with all 4 signatures, where the signatures were acquired over a number of years. Authentic? Who knows but a fascinating concept. Quite a number of Beatles albums have all four signatures that were not all signed at the same time. It doesn't seem to really reduce the value of the item from one where the signatures were all done at one moment in time. That's why Ringo (and sometimes Paul) is so grumpy about signing articles that already have the others signatures on them. He knows once he adds his, the value of the item skyrockets.

So how much is a CD of Double Fantasy worth with John's signatue on the booklet insert?

In hindsight I'm suprised that I (and Old Fred) didn't see you at Ringo's 1998 CD signing at Tower records (for Storytellers.) He also did one for the Anthology...So Far shortly afterwards, also in NYC. Yes, I know. And Paul also did a couple of signings as well. By that time I suppose I'd had enough, but the problem was mainly because I always figured I would never get to the line early enough to secure a good spot (the amount of people who make it are limited). I don't want to wait on line overnight or anything like that. I know Fred has a great photo shaking Ringo's hand.

I know what you mean, though. I turned down the chance to wait for a Paul signing of one of his books, I din't want to wait overnight much as would love to have gotten an autograph.

Silly me, I actually looked for Ringo's new album at my local Wal-Mart and spent several minutes searching an unorganized rack of c.d's rubbing elbows with the finest Meth-heads in the U.S. Mid-West.

Did anyone see Ringo on Conan O'Brien last night? I only found out about it a half hour before it aired. Ringo looked great, and he performed the new version of WINGS -- which I loved! This was easily one of my favorite Ringo TV performances and if this song sounds anything as rockin' & powerful as it did on the show, it will easily become one of my all-time personal "best solo Ringo recordings"! EDITED TO ADD: I just searched on YouTube and found out that Ringo had also been on Craig Ferguson's show the day before (1/31/12). Hey, guys - what's going on around here? I would have hoped someone on the board would have found out and reported such things in advance. Does anyone know of any upcoming Ringo TV appearances?

I would ordinarily yawn a little at the thought of Ringo performing I WANNA BE YOUR MAN again, but check out this excellent clip from the Craig Ferguson Show -- Ringo is sounding stronger and looking happier than ever here -- probably his best rendition of this song in ages!
I always love it when he does that "rough throat" extended singing, like around 1:35 where he sings: "Tell me that you LOOOOOOOVE me, baby"

And James McCartney was on Letterman on Monday. I think we assumed everyone knew.

I got RINGO 2012 yesterday -- I really like it, and I think Ringo has managed to have 2 good albums in a row along with Y NOT.
I listened to it in the car while I was driving to pick my girlfriend up after work. I immediately liked it on first listen and I felt the album was much more edgy than we've heard from Ringo in a while. On first listen I probably liked about 5 of the 9 songs right away. I liked the opening song ANTHEM, and I love his redux of WINGS (it's now officially one of my all-time favorite Ringo songs!!). This lead into the fun and bouncy Buddy Holly cover THINK IT OVER... and then SAMBA, which was also a good time... and a nice cover of ROCK ISLAND LINE. The last four tracks did not grab me right away, but they have legs and I think I'll get to love the whole album eventually.
It's just amazing that Ringo is going to be 72 and he's still out there doing what he likes to do and better than ever. I got the album which also contains an extra DVD, and it's a nice 20-minute featurette with Ringo explaining each song and then footage of him recording them.
When I picked my girlfriend up from work I played her some tracks. You have to understand, my girl appreciates The Beatles but she is not a huge fan. She enjoys learning about them and I have shown her a lot of Beatles-related and Solo material from my video collection to the point where she eventually said "I need a break, I'm getting Beatled-out!" at one point. She is also a professional singer who is VERY discerning when she judges other singers. (Needless to say, she's not that fond of Ringo's voice as a singer). However, I was pleasantly surprised when she told me she really likes WINGS ... she's heard it twice now, once live on CONAN O' BRIEN and now on the album ... and she thinks it's really a good song. I myself am really in love with WINGS and am thrilled that Ringo hit upon a gem in re-recording it for this album. I am really anxious to see him and his All-Starrs live this summer and am looking forward to him belting out this song! I think WINGS is one of those songs that suits Ringo's voice perfectly and I don't think anyone else could sing it as well.

You are a brave man, Joe. I did not spring Ringo albums on my significant other until after she said, "I do" and was stuck with me. I stuck to the classic mid-1970's Wings stuff(her era) and early to mid Beatles which she prefers to their later music even though she is a Rocker, liking AC/DC, Rush and old Van Halen. She even talked me into to taking her to see Van Halen on their most recent "reunion" tour later this month.

The Super Bowl is being played in Indianapolis Sunday and Indy is a zoo, much worse than during our annual Indianapolis 500 Race whose facility holds aboout 250,000 people compared to about 50,000 at the Super Bowl but doesn't bring people downtown.
To avoid that rat-race, I am heading North this weekend in search of Ringo's new album. It will be fun/frustrating to see how many stores I must go to before finding it.
[Sigh] I remember the mid-1970's when the world would stop for the release of a new ex-Beatles album.

So, Ringo's going to be a presenter at the Grammys? The same show that Paul is going to perform on?

The cost of gas to travel to the nearest town that might have a retail store that has the new Ringo album: $20.00 The thrill of leaving Logantucky for the day and leaving the wife behind just to find an album I already am suspicious of: priceless! ;D Ringo on the Grammys eh? Wow, it is like 1973 again and Paul and Ringo are competing for the Number 1 album slot........kind of.

I think WINGS is one of those songs that suits Ringo's voice perfectly and I don't think anyone else could sing it as well. I've got it as well, bought it on friday. I Listened to it in the car on the way home, as you did and then again on Saturday at home on headphones. IMO it's OK, but I don't rank it as highly as Y Not (which I liked), but better than Liverpool 8 (which I didn't like much). Only nine tracks on this new album, including two covers and two remakes for a total running time under 29 minutes. My personal ratings for the three albums would be: Liverpool 8: 2 1/2 stars (out of 5) Y Not: 3 1/2 stars Ringo 2012: 3 stars As for the individual tracks, unfortunately, unlike yourself, I can't say that I think much of the opener, Anthem. It seems to me to be an inferior repeat, lyrically, of Peace Dream, which even though that song is itself derivitive of John Lennon's work, is a favourite of mine from Y Not. I would agree that Wings is stand out track. I love what has been done with the arrangement. Think It Over is good, but this is the second time it has been released in a few months and consequently, I already have it. I don't care for Samba, while Rock Island Line isn't bad, however, the remake of Step Lightly offers nothing. As for the last three songs, all new originals, I enjoyed both Wonderful and In Liverpool. I can't say the same for Slow Down. Ringo's voice sounded perfectly acceptable to me throughout the whole album. I suppose he could keep on making albums of this moderate quality for years to come.

I like the hard rock, amped up guitars on this album. This is what I was wishing they would put out in the 70s.
Anthem starts with the drum sound from Glass Onion. It rocks pretty hard. I think it's a much better song than Peace Dream.
I never cared much for the earlier version of Wings.
Ringo's Buddy track is the best of the two tribute albums, our favorite living fab, included.
Samba takes Ringo in a little bit different direction but luckily it keeps the fast pace of the album.
Rock Island Line, damn Ringo does not want to quit. I was expecting something a little different, more in the Lonnie Donagan style or maybe even Johnny Cash. I think this song has some of the best lines ever, "I may be right, I may be wrong, You know you're gonna miss me when I'm gone".
A/B Step Lightly with the Ringo 1973 version and the older version is a little bit of a snoozer, although not a bad song either. I never paid any attention to it until now. I accidently let Sunshine Life For Me play while doing this. What the hell was that song about, George and Ringo's answer to Paul's Raym Ond album?
Wonderful isn't as good as the earlier songs, but still, it has the rockin' guitars. In Liverpool is reminiscent of Liverpool 8 and pretty by the numbers. It tugs on the nostalgia strings with the "How was it for you?" line. Slow Down sounds a lot like Fill in the Blanks but it's not as good. Still, none of these lesser songs do what I'd call "stink up the disc".
The worse it ever was, was wonderful.
RTP, I'm jumping ship for now. I'm now a Ringo guy, at least until Paul gets this Tony Bennett thing out of his system.

Now of course she's hot for Ringo.

Ringo magazine alert: A nice cover on a decent music magazine. I picked up a copy today for $7.99. I bought three magazines today all because I was looking for the RS with Macca on the cover. The other magazine had a great cover of Dhani Harrison and I post it in the George Thread on his guitar ap.

I listened to Ringo's Anthem off his 2012 album today...good song.. What were they thinking when they ended that song.....it's the only fault i found with it... Way to go Ritchie..he's not a bad vocalist nowadays Ritchie, it's almost his turn to be the Beatles best modern day vocalist....
