What am I missing here? Why would a person buy both the 2 CD and 4 CD version? Is it JUST about a collection? Too bad there isn't a Purest of the Pure 1 CD version or a 3 CD set. Can't wait for a blue, red, green, and yellow version and also a picture disk. I don't even really get getting the CD and the vinyl. If I was still a collector, I'd put more value on the vinyl. By it and burn a CD (I have a vinyl to CD recorder). I don't know. It's like JSD said above, "That's just me." You actually nailed it a few threads ago: I'm hooked. But it's a harmless addiction.

I will buy the 2CD and 4CD and wish I could today rather than wait until June. No vinyl for me. I don't have any problem with Paul McCartney releasing an updated compilation. Other acts have done it a lot more often than him, after all. I just would have preferred a bit different track list. What am I missing here? Why would a person buy both the 2 CD and 4 CD version? Just goes to show how wrong you are about people allegedly being "controlled" into buying things. Not everyone is buying each and every format here, are they? If, as you imply, some of us are mindless pawns in the hands of the master marketers, I should think we would all be incapable of resisting anything ever put up for sale. You say you don't get buying both the CD and the Vinyl? For one thing, the 4-Cd Set has more tracks and is different from the records; for another, the Vinyl can be for home, the CDs for the car. (And 'downloading' if you just like having nuthin' ) .

The tracks are not the remastered versions but pfffft, you can't hear the difference in an MP3 track anyway.

Re: Somedays...
I dunno, I just can't handle the "eyes that shine" line... reminds me of a rabbit.
And as for Pure Macca, I won't be buying it in any form. I don't have much coin so that's my main reason.
And I will get around to doing an alternative 67 track version (Purer Macca).

Several of those songs, while good, are not "Pure McCartney" (Veronica, Cut Me Some Slack). I had Take It Away, My Brave Face, Brown Eyed Handsome Man, and Put It There on my list and Vanilla Sky was one I considered. I'm not a big fan of That Would Be Something, but it kind of fits better with the description that people who like Bip Bop use to say they like it. That Would Be Something is simple and repetitive, but it isn't annoying, poorly sung, and overly long like Bip Bop is and the lyrics, while there is not much to them, are at least not as embarrassing as those of Bip Bop. I wouldn't have a problem with I Lost My Little Girl being on PURE MCCARTNEY, but I'm not a fan of the Fireman track on this list.

Poor McCartney Whilst perhaps not everyone's taste I thought this would make a good coaster out of a CD. I was going to actually listen to the tracks as well. But decided best not to. It's really quite a Paul-ing.

It's really quite a Paul-ing. I listened to a mock-up of this on my three-hour drive to Fresno to see Paul and I gotta say it was underwhelming. I had a better drive back listening to the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds 50th set.

I'm not sure what you are going for here but some of these songs are good. Reception - Back to the Egg - I always liked this. A great start to the album and good lead in to Getting CLoser. Arizona Light - Strawberries Ocean Ships Forest - I don't know this song. I generally don't like ambient music, which I here these early Fireman albums were. Plastic Beetle - Liverpool Sound Collage - -I have this album, this album, his album, is album, but, is album but I not sure what this track is. I not going to pull it up to find out. Baby I'm free again. Kreen Akrore - McCartney - I love this. It really rocks. Loup -(1st Indian on the Moon) - Red Rose Speedway - I'd had liked this a lot more on a better album. Cook of the House - Speed of Sound - "Are you rockin' the cat?" Even with Linda's throw away vocals, this song is terribly fun. Cuff Link - London Town - I always liked this. It, with Backwards Traveler were on the b-side of With a Little Luck. I'd it on a best of. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reggae - B-Side to Wonderful Christmastime. - This should get played on the radio at Christmas. A good song. Bogey Music - McCartney II - I always liked this. One of my favorites from the album. Get It - Tug of War - A good fit on the album. It's not best of material. Hey Hey - Pipes of Peace - LOVE! Goodnight Princess - B-side You Gave Me the Answer I don't know this one, unless it Goodnight Lonely Princess from Broad Street. It's not my style, but pleasant enough. Ou Est Le Soleil - B-side & Video Game Soundtrack! - I love this. Prince sort of borrows it for the song Cream, a couple years later. Golden Earth Girl - Off the Ground - I never cared for this. Hotel in Benidorm - Paul is Live - I'd forgot about this one. I need to put it on one of my new music playlists (Although it's clipping all through it right now. Maybe that's why I didn't play it more.) Really Love You - Flaming Pie - Another really good one I'd forgotten. I love the guitar riff. Spinning on an Axis - Driving Rain - I like this one. Maybe I'm Amazed - Twin Freaks Mix - This is probably one of the few good songs on the album. Lovers in a Dream - Electric Arguments - Not a bad song. Works better on the album. Pulled out by itself, no so much. Show Me the Way to Go Home - Unreleased - I don't know this one. One of the astonishing things about this is the lack of tracks to discover that would have made this a nice set.

The respective powers that be should quickly assemble career spanning George Harrison and Ringo Starr box sets and aim to have them released by May 1. That would get us Pure McCartney sooner!

Spinning On An Axis, one of Paul's worst set of lyrics ever. Helps make Driving Rain the dud that it is.

Good show, Steve. I must say that I agreed with Ken here 100% about the good case for why compilations are important. (I know that Ken never criticizes or didislikes just about ANYTHING Beatles-related ... hell, he doesn't even feel that "Happy Xmas" has the same melody as "Stewball"!) but I thought he was spot-on in this episode. Keep up the great shows!

One More Kiss Some People Never Know ... Diggy diggy, fattened piggy! I like this. Much better than Pure. I started to just make my own list, just picking my favorite songs instead of picking from what's left after the picks from Pure. There were a few in your picks I would skip and a few of your skips I would pick.

37 DAYS UNTIL PURE MCCARTNEY IS RELEASED! It's a long wait. Too long for my liking. I'm looking through the track listing again for the four CD set. I still think it's pretty good, even if it gets some things wrong, especially a few key songs have been left out. I remember years ago RTP said that while Paul had produced only a few "classic" songs in his post-Beatles career, he had released a lot of "good" songs. I would agree with that but unfortunately it is also the root of the problem with this forthcoming box set. Four CD's isn't really enough space. It needed to be five, or even six.
