Just finished watching Paul's live Grand Central Station show. Overall I enjoyed watching the show and the new songs from Egypt Station sounded good live. Paul and band played for about 2 hrs. Giles Martin was there in the sound booth according to Paul. Set List:
A Hard Day's Night Hi Hi Hi Can't Buy Me Love Letting Go I Got A Feeling Come On To Me My Valentine Nineteen Hundred Eighty-five From Me To You Love Me Do Four Five Seconds Blackbird Dance Tonight Who Cares I Saw Her Standing There Fuh You Back in The USSR Obla Di Obla Da Birthday Lady Madonna Let It Be Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Helter Skelter Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight
Paul had live horns on Letting Go and a Saxophone player on Lady Madonna. On My Valentine, Paul sang the song through a bullhorn and they showed Nancy in the audience a few times during the song. Paul brought two audience members up on stage before playing Who Cares. The young women were wearing Come On To Me and Fuh You tshirs.

early days yet... a few listens in.... Despite Repeated Warnings, the final medley, Dominoes, Brazil, Hand in Hand.... sounding good.... It's a long album... Perhaps if he culled it he'd have a great album... still, early days... I''l give it a spin again after work...

It's a much different record to New. I've been pleasantly surprised. it wasn't what I expected after Come Onto Me and Fuh You.

I am relieved that the other songs that I have heard are all better than the mediocre "Come On To Me" and the embarrassingly awful "Fuh You". "I Don't Know" is a particularly strong song. The rest I have heard are decent, though not great. So, I would say it is not as good as NEW (which in turn was not as good as the excellent MEMORY ALMOST FULL).

Has anybody mentioned how much better Paulie looks with his natural hair? If not, I will! Keep it that way, Paul!

My favorites from ES so far are I Don't Know, Who Cares, Dominoes, Hand in Hand. Hunt You Down. I am starting to like Back in Brazil and the melody sticks in my head. Paul says his use of the Japanese word Ichiban has a long story. Sone cool Q &A about Egypt Station can be found here: twitter.com/i/moments/1029743119665954817

Dominoes may be the stand out track I initially thought this album was missing. Hand in Hand is delicately beautiful. I'm not sure I can say that Egypt Station is better than New, but it is very good, IMO. I rate the latter as one of Paul's post-Beatles best. I think it is a little more consistently good than Egypt Station.

I've listened to Egypt Station once so far, i like it. Paul's done a good job with his 76 year old voice.
I quite like Who Cares and Fuh You.
Some songs did make me think, Paul can be a lousy lyricist, but, they are his songs, created his way, to his liking.
I wonder how much say a Producer gets on a Paul album.
Wonderful that we are still getting new Paul material in 2018. He shows NO sign of slowing down.

Just want to say that since 1997, Paul has released 8 pop/rock albums. Six of them original material. In my opinion, Flaming Pie,Chaos and Creation, Memory Almost Full, Electric Arguments, New, and Egypt Station are first class albums. If we throw in Paul's classical and "experimental" albums, that guy can't stop writing and recording - good stuff.
Sure he hasn't gotten his Number One album, but these are very high quality works. If people actually bothered to listen, they would see that throughout his solo career, he has written lots of "Beatle" quality songs. And, to do so with these six albums this late in his career is a marvel.
(Dylan is still going strong, too).

JimmyMcCullochFan's review. Jimmy posts a lot of the alt Wings/McCartney recordings on youtube.
He raves about the album.

I kind of stalled out on listening to the album because the tracks were skipping on my PC. I got about a third of the way through.
I moved the album onto my iPod, into my "New Music" playlist, for listening in the car. A couple of songs popped up in the rotation with the my other recently purchased CDs. Some pretty cool tracks. It's got me pumped for another full listen.

It’s just my personal view, but I think Egypt Station needed some editing. There isn’t enough material for a genuine double LP (unless bonus tracks were included), so I would have pared it down.
The other problem I have is that there is not a satisfactory album closer, IMO. Hunt You Down/Naked/C-Link doesn’t work for me in that role. The Hunt You Down component of the medley sounds great, but I wouldn’t have ended the album with C-Link (essentially a blues instrumental).
I suggest an alternate track list, something like this:
Opening Station I Don’t Know Come On To Me Happy With You Who Cares Confidante Hand In Hand
Dominoes Back In Brazil Do It Now Caesar Rock Hunt You Down Station II Despite Repeated Warnings

Yes, it looks like he will finally be getting a US#1 album again after all these years. Of course, it's not official just yet. I believe it has achieved #1 ranking in Germany as well. In the UK Egypt Station made #3. That's a little disappointing - the same result as New. All the recent promotion did not improve things there. In Australia it made #4. I don't have archival information at hand, but I think that is a bit better than previous releases.

I wrote this up last night and got the end, hit something, and lost it all.
I finally got around to listening to the rest of the album. There are a lot of surprises here, from the Albert of India-ish Confidant, to the Blackeyed Pea-sy Nothing is Free bonus track. There are signs here he is trying harder. Like the melodic rhyming in the verses of People Want Peace and the guitar and horns in the playout of Dominoes.
Caesar Rock is pretty cool. Just when you think Despite Repeated Warnings is not going anywhere, it goes somewhere. A great track, although it seams a little muddy and the orchestration is a little too heavy to my ears.
Hunt You Down/Naked/C-Link end the album well. Love it! The bonus track Get Started doesn't fit well after this but it does go out rockin'. The before mentioned Nothing is Real sounds enough like McCartney as to not sound derivative. I hear a little Jack White sound as well.
I liked NEW when it came out but it kind of petered out on me. I think Egypt Station has more staying power.

Well done James Paul McCartney from Liverpool.
Maybe i'm amazed he's had another number 1 album after all this time. You just never know.

I have mixed feelings on this. Glad he got a #1, but it is too bad it came on this album, which is greatly inferior to FLAMING PIE, CHAOS AND CREATION, and MEMORY ALMOST FULL. That trio were much more deserving of #1 status. I would further add I think FLOWERS IN THE DIRT and NEW are superior to EGYPT STATION and some of the others might be just as good.

Agree that FP, C&C, and MAF should have been number one also. There are really good songs on those albums. I am really happy for Paul that he was able to get a number one album with ES.
